Team AkzoNobel finishes Volvo Ocean Race with second place on final leg; becomes fastest crew in Volvo Ocean Race history

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Team AkzoNobel has finished second on the final leg of the Volvo Ocean Race around the world to claim fourth place in the overall standings, after Leg 11 from Gothenburg, Sweden came to a thrilling conclusion in front of huge crowds on the beachfront of The Hague in the Netherlands.

The 45,000-nautical mile (83,000-kilometer) ocean racing marathon took eight months of gruelling legs from port to port around the world.

The AkzoNobel crew also set a new outright 24-hour distance time for the Volvo Ocean Race on Leg 9 from the United States to the United Kingdom when they clocked up 602.51 nautical miles (1,115.8 kilometers), making them the fastest Volvo Ocean Race crew ever in the 45-year history of the race.

“It’s been an unbelievably hard journey and we have been through some ups and downs around the world, so we are very proud to finish on the podium as the first Dutch boat in our home port at The Hague,” said team AkzoNobel skipper Simeon Tienpont.

NBP Press Release Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund 2018 Employees of National Bank donate One-Day Salary

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) The employees of National Bank of Pakistan on the persuation of Saeed Ahmad, President, National Bank of Pakistan have decided voluntarily to contribute one day salary for the construction of ‘Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund 2018.’ This nationally important decision has been taken keeping in view the demerging acute shortage of water which poses an alarming threat for the country, which has been rightly observed by the honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan. In response to the Government of Pakistan, to mobilize funds through donations/contributions by both the domestic and international donors, an account with the name of “Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund-2018” has been established at all the branches of National Bank of Pakistan. Pakistan has always been a country blessed with rivers and rainfall, but in the view of the experts, there is going to be a massive water shortage as a large portion of the river water that passes through the country empties itself into the sea and the country loses out on power and irrigation opportunities. In his message to Saeed Ahmad said that that the management of NBP has expects field functionaries to welcome, receive and facilitate all persons desirous of making deposits and contributions in the said account. It is the ardent duty of each and every one of us to fulfill our responsibilities, whole heartedly and welcome the depositors courteously. Our helpdesk in all big branches, regions and Head Office are fully geared to extend fullest support, assistance and respond politely to any query and resolve every complaint. Any staff member found to negligent/fall short in carrying out his/her responsibilities will be dealt with severely. Regional Management Teams will have ‘Zero Tolerance’ against those who are found not supporting the initiative and negligent towards this worthy cause. ‘ He further informed that NBP has advertised information for general public in Urdu/English in print media and and displayed banners. Telephone numbers for lodging complaints have been displayed notice at all the branches and ATM cabins and also displayed at NBP website. NBP Call Centre will be working 24/7 for disseminating information regarding the funds account on priority basis and resolving complaints. The Bank’s overseas branch network is also advised to facilitate collection of donations/contributions from overseas Pakistanis and/or any international donor/contributor. Donation and contribution to the funds can be made in the form of cash, cheque, prize bonds and other cash equivalents. It is now imperative that the people of Pakistan and expatriates settled abroad should express their love for the country by deposit any amount into the Fund.

Red Bull Campus Cricket Is Reaching New Heights of Sporting Glory

Karachi (Muhammad Yasir) Red Bull Campus Cricket is the only global T20 cricket tournament for university students where campuses from 8 countries contest for national pride and become the world champions.

This edition of Red Bull Campus Cricket Pakistan is on the verge of taking the sports community by storm.  Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Quetta Gladiators have joined hands with Red Bull for the upcoming nationwide Campus Cricket Tournament which will be played in eight cities of Pakistan i.e. Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Multan, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Faisalabad. The national winners will travel to Sri Lanka for the World Finals, competing with 7 other countries for the crown of World Champions of Red Bull Campus Cricket.

Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar said that he is excited to be partnering in one of the biggest sporting activations in Pakistan. “We’re really exciting to be partnering with Red Bull Campus Cricket and I believe this activation will also allow us to unearth talent at University level,” Nadeem said.

“The players will also have the incentive that they will be monitored by Quetta Gladiators. We plan to induct any outstanding talent from the tourney in our activities. Two of the best players — one from Balochistan and one from rest of the Pakistan — will be included in All Stars Muqabla exhibition match which will be played in Quetta with another PSL franchise in next few months.” The All Stars Muqabla is the property of Gladiators and they played an exhibition match with Islamabad United in Rawalpindi in February before flying out to UAE for PSL season three.

Meanwhile, Nadeem Omar further added that a high performance camp will also be staged for the best 11 players of the Reb Bull Campus Cricket. “Apart from inducting two players in All Stars Muqabla, we will call the top 11 players of Red Bull Campus Cricket for a short high performance camp. We hope that we would be able to get some good talent from Balochistan as well in this initiative,” Nadeem stated.

“Also we endeavor to promote cricket in educational institutions with a hope of bringing in groomed athletes like legendary Imran Khan, Saeed Anwar and others. Sporting abilities should always be the primary qualification for any athlete but little education allow you to become an even better individual.”

17th YLC ends with 300 youth ready to take on challenges

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) It was a day of overwhelming emotions as the six-day long Young Leaders Conference (YLC) 2018 came to an end on a high note in Chand Bagh. An annual affair organized by the School of Leadership (SoL), YLC is a rigorous, thought-provoking leadership program that brings together more than 300 youngsters between the ages of 18 to 24 under one roof. IT’S TIME was the theme of this year’s conference which provided participants with the courage and passion to shape a better future for themselves and for those around them by letting everyone know It’s Time to change.

Introduction to Social Action Projects was the last day’s theme and was moderated by Azhar Hamza, the YLC Champ for 2018 along with Alezeh Mumtaz.

The ‘Social Action Project’ session required the participants to create the layout of the projects they were going to initiate to bring about a positive change in society and present it to the YLC team. Success stories related to these initiatives were also shared by Maalik Khashkely and Khadeeja Khan.

The last few hours of the conference were spent reminiscing, networking, sharing moments and the unforgettable memories formed within the span of the six days. “This was my first YLC and it has taught me a lot as well as made me think about what is happening around me. I couldn’t be more thankful to the people who empowered me,” said one participant from Karachi.

For Azhar Hamza, the person who led this year’s conference, it was a moment to savor. “YLC has been in my blood since the day I first participated in it. Today, having successfully completed the 6 days of the conference and seeing the impact the conference has had on the participants, my dream to lead this immense project is complete. Emirates makes history with one-off A380 touchdown in Islamabad

Islamabad (Muhammad Yasir) The Emirates A380 touched down in Islamabad today for a historic one-off service to Islamabad International Airport. This was the first time ever that the iconic double-decker aircraft has landed in Pakistan. The landing demonstrated the airport’s readiness to accommodate the A380, the world’s largest commercial passenger jet.

The special Emirates A380 flight was operated by UAE national, Capt Abbas Shaban, Chief Pilot of Technical Operations and Pakistani national, First Officer Qadir Moin.

The special flight, operating as EK 2524, was joined by a VIP delegation led by Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Centre and Adil Al Ghaith, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, GMEI (Gulf, Middle East and Iran). They were joined by His Excellency Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi, the UAE Ambassador to Pakistan and His Excellency Moazzam Ahmad Khan, Pakistan Ambassador to the UAE. Also travelling on the flight as special guests were two Pakistani members of Emirates’ first ever team, Captain Fazle Ghani, the airline’s first Chief Pilot and Team Lead for Inaugural Operations and Captain Ejaz ul Haq, one of the pilots who operated the first ever Emirates flights from Dubai 33 years ago.

Upon landing at 1210hrs at Islamabad International Airport, the aircraft was met with a ceremonial water cannon salute, and the Emirates delegation was welcomed by government officials and Islamabad International Airport executives.  After a welcoming ceremony, government officials, VIPs, media and members of the travel industry were given a guided tour of the A380 by Emirates cabin crew.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Centre said: “We are proud to have operated this special A380 flight to Islamabad, the first time ever that our flagship aircraft has landed in Pakistan. The Emirates A380 is fundamental to our overall strategy, and bringing this popular aircraft to Islamabad represents a significant milestone in our operations to Pakistan, a country we flew our first ever flight to in 1985. We are very keen to now launch a scheduled A380 service to Pakistan and will continue to work with authorities to make these plans a reality.”

Emirates and Pakistan have a long-standing relationship that spans over 30 years, when the airline’s first flight flew from Dubai to Karachi on 25 October 1985. Since then, Emirates has grown exponentially in Pakistan, and today the airline operates 71 weekly flights between Dubai and six cities in Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot and Multan, offering Pakistani travellers convenient access to over 150 global destinations. Emirates also employs over 5,000 Pakistani nationals as Flight Deck crew, Cabin Crew and in various others positions across the airline.

Hundreds of passengers travelled on the special flight, many of whom had made their bookings specially for this unique flight. The passengers on board began their journeys from 25 countries reflecting Emirates’ global mix of customers who will benefit from this route.

The Emirates A380 aircraft that operated this special one-off service to Islamabad was set in a two-class configuration offering spacious seats in Economy Class and fully flat-bed seats in Business Class as well as Emirates’ popular Onboard Lounge. Passengers in all classes enjoyed free Wi-Fi to stay in touch with family and friends and Emirates’ multi-award winning inflight entertainment system ice with up to 3,500 channels of movies, TV programmes, music and podcasts on the industry’s biggest personal screens in each class of travel.
