‘Be Bold and Accept Challenge’: The Aim of International Women Day

NUT Blogger (MAD)

March 8th marks 110 years since the annual International Women’s Day (IWD) was first commemorated in 1911. In 1921, the IWD was designated to seek attention from all quarters for giving equal rights and promote women’s right to vote in developed countries’ political setup. This day highlights the achievements of women with a national holiday in numerous countries as decided by the United Nations in 1975.

In its campaign for female enfranchisement, the Socialist Party of America in 1909 held the first National Woman’s Day, which was highlighted by mass meetings across the United States; the day was observed until 1913.

This year’s celebrations will start with the objective “Be Bold and Accept Challenge”. There are a lot of voices of women around the world on the challenges they face and the hopes they have. Today, it is an important occasion for promoting women’s issues and rights, especially in developing countries.

The above reforms established women empowerment in all fields of life. Now the women are shoulder to shoulder with men in all walks of life, whatever it is, from Space Station to Railway Station responsibilities and Commerce to Computer Science services.

The occasion will be celebrated by love messages from moms, aunts, sisters, daughters, teachers, female fellows, girlfriends and wives worldwide. Men should make them (females) feel honoured on this day, and we should hope that everybody will say ‘Happy Women’s Day’ to their love ones.

Honda’s part self-driving Legend a big step for autonomous tech

Lahore (NUT Desk)  Honda Motor Co Ltd on Thursday unveiled a partially self-driving Legend sedan in Japan, becoming the world’s first carmaker to sell a vehicle equipped with new, certified level 3 automation technology.
The launch gives Japan’s No.2 automaker bragging rights for being the first to market, but lease sales of the level 3 flagship Legend would be limited to a batch of 100 in Japan, at a retail price of 11 million yen ($102,000).
Still, the new automation technology is a big step towards eliminating human error-induced accidents, chief engineer Yoichi Sugimoto told reporters.
The Legend’s “Traffic Jam Pilot” system can control acceleration, braking and steering under certain conditions.
Once the system is activated, a driver can also watch movies or use the navigation on the screen, helping to mitigate fatigue and stress when driving in a traffic jam, Honda said in a statement.
It can alert the driver to respond when handing over the control, such as vibration on the driver’s seatbelt, the carmaker said. And if the driver continues to be unresponsive, the system will assist with an emergency stop by decelerating and stopping the vehicle while alerting surrounding cars with hazard lights and the horn, it added.
The announcement comes after the Japanese government awarded a safety certification to Honda’s “Traffic Jam Pilot” in November.
Global automakers and tech companies, including Google parent Alphabet Inc’s Waymo and Tesla Inc, have been investing heavily in autonomous driving.
Yet even as the technology advances, regulations on autonomous driving differ from country to country. Audi unveiled an A8 sedan with level 3 technology in 2017 but regulatory hurdles have prevented it from being widely introduced.
Honda has no plans to increase production or sales of a level 3-equipped Legend for now, its operating officer said on otherday.

WhatsApp introduces private and secure calling from the desktop

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) WhatsApp has announced that private and secure one-to-one voice and video calls are now available on WhatsApp’s desktop app.

As per a blog on WhatsApp’s official website, they stated “Throughout the last year we’ve seen significant increases in people calling one another on WhatsApp, often for long conversations. Last New Year’s Eve, we broke the record for the most calls ever made in a single day with 1.4 billion voice and video calls. With so many people still apart from their loved ones, and adjusting to new ways of working, we want conversations on WhatsApp to feel as close to in-person as possible, regardless of where you are in the world or the tech you’re using.

Answering on a bigger screen makes it easier to work with colleagues, see your family more clearly on a bigger canvas, or free up your hands to move around a room while talking. To make desktop calling more useful, it has been made sure it works seamlessly for both portrait and landscape orientation, appears in a resizable standalone window on your computer screen, and is set to be always on top so users never lose video chats in a browser tab or stack of open windows.

Voice and video calls on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can’t hear or see them, whether you call from your phone or your computer. The feature is starting with one-to-one calls on the WhatsApp desktop app to make sure users get a reliable and high-quality experience.
