2021 Cannes film festival from July 6

After two delays, the 2021 Cannes Film Festival is finally making its return. The 74th edition of the film festival is taking place from July 6 to 17 with 24 films set to make their debut. The festival is unveiling films from all over the world, including the U.S., France, Japan, Morocco, Finland, Russia, Iran and many others.

Oscar-award-winning director and screenwriter Spike Lee is taking on the role of president of the jury for this year’s festival after the 2020 edition was canceled. He will be tasked with handing out the coveted Palme d’Or at the festival’s closing ceremony.

Others on the jury include Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mélanie Laurent, Song Kang-ho, Tahar Rahim, Mati Diop, Jessica Hausner, Kleber Mendonça and Mylène Farmer. Jodie Foster will receive the festival’s honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony on July 6.

The 2021 Cannes Film Festival will debut some highly anticipated films, including “Annette,” which stars Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver, Wes Anderson’s star-studded “The French Dispatch” and actor Sean Penn’s “Flag Day,” which features his children Dylan and Hopper Penn.

PNCA film production online classes from Aug 2

 

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) second semester course on film production online classes would be started from August 2. Director General PNCA Dr. Fouzia Saeed told media that the registration process was completed for the second semester. She said that national and international faculty would train and educate students on film production in this program. Dr. Fouzia said that Arts Council was making efforts to create an environment for the youngster to groom their artistic skills in various arts forms. She said the curriculum is a mix of intellectual understanding, skill-based learning and on-the-ground experience of working in a professional environment. DG PNCA said the second programme was focused on film production with a full understanding of film making. She said that PNCA was also planning to organize a grand graduation ceremony for the first semester graduates of ”online one-year film production program”. PNCA Film section has started an “online one-year film production program” in the previous quarter.

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir It was announced yesterday that SOC Films, a Karachi based film production house, spearheaded by two-time Academy Award and four-time Emmy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, has been nominated in two categories at the prestigious 48th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards for its international documentary series “FUNDAMENTAL. GENDER JUSTICE. NO EXCEPTIONS”, by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in New York.

Produced by SOC Film’s documentary film-makers Safyah Zafar Usmani and Shahrukh Waheed with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy as the director, the five-episode international documentary series was entirely shot in Brazil, Georgia, Kenya, USA, and Pakistan. “FUNDAMENTAL. GENDER JUSTICE. NO EXCEPTIONS” has been nominated in the categories of OUTSTANDING SHORT FORM DAYTIME NON-FICTION PROGRAM and OUTSTANDING DIRECTING TEAM FOR A SINGLE CAMERA DAYTIME NON-FICTION PROGRAM.

In a first of sorts for Pakistan, a global documentary series has been created and produced by an all Pakistani Crew, and officially presented and released by YouTube Originals and Refinery29.

A collaboration between SOC Films and Global Fund for Women, the character-driven documentary series FUNDAMENTAL follows dynamic gender justice activists from five countries who are disrupting the status quo, by agitating and organizing to create safe spaces and a safer world for other women, girls, and other historically marginalized people and communities globally.

Each of the five episodes shot internationally profiles a distinct set of remarkable grassroots movements and community leaders, mobilizing to initiate new futures for themselves, their societies, and the world – working on issues that include:
