GE Renewable Energy expands wind power capacity in Pakistan through inauguration of Hawa Power Project in Jhimpir

  • Addition of 50 MW in the national grid through the installation and commissioning of wind farm in Jhimpir
  • This agreement underscores GE’s longstanding commitment to Pakistan and will contribute to the nation’s target to increase the percentage of indigenous sources of power generation.

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) GE Renewable Energy [GE: NYSE] and Hawa Energy (Pvt.) Ltd today inaugurated the 50 MW wind farm, Hawa Power Project, in the Gharo-Keti Bandar Wind Corridor in Jhimpir, Sindh – a highly anticipated launch that seeks to further drive the growth of renewable energy in Pakistan. The project is installed with 29, 1.7-103 wind turbines, with implementation of the project undertaken by Power China, as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. 

The 50 MW project is the fourth in Pakistan to feature GE’s advanced wind turbines. In addition to the provision of wind turbines, GE will also provide 10 years of operations and maintenance services as part of the contract, making it a one-stop shop for Hawa Power Project. This agreement will encompass technical experience, data-driven insights and industry-leading trouble-shooting practices, smart maintenance and repairs while prioritizing lifecycle costs and guaranteed availability.

The commissioning of this fourth wind farm and its provision of an additional 50 MW of renewable energy, which serves to create critical capacity that didn’t previously exist, and meet the low-cost and reliable electricity needs of thousands of citizens, is a proud moment for us.”

GE’s 1.7-100/103 wind turbine offers a 47 percent increase in swept area when compared to GE’s 1.6-82.5 turbine, resulting in a 24 percent increase in Annual Energy Production (AEP) at 7.5 m/s. This increase in blade swept area allows greater energy capture and improved project economics for wind developers. GE has been providing advanced wind turbines for the development of wind power plants in the Jhimpir corridor in Thatta district, adding more power to the national grid.

The Government of Pakistan has tasked the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) to ensure 5 percent of total national power generation capacity to be generated through renewable energy technologies by the year 2030, following the U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory estimates that Pakistan has over 132 gigawatts (GW) of wind energy capacity.

Ufone kicks off its project based Summer Internship Program!

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Ufone will be visiting multiple higher education institutions across Pakistan starting today till May 09, to recruit interns for their flagship apprenticeship program, The Summer Internship Program (SIP) 2018.

Ufone’s SIP is a project-based internship initiative designed to help students who are ready to enter the job market by giving them the opportunity of working under supervision of experienced professionals. The internship program is launched once every year, through which a limited number of students are placed within the organization for 6-8 weeks after undergoing a competitive and merit-based selection process.

Uber and Elahi Group launch first of its kind ‘Rickshaw Financing Program’

Lahore (Muhammad YasirUber, the global smartphone app that offers safe, reliable and affordable transport options for riders and drivers, has joined hands with Elahi Group (EGC) to launch an innovative ‘Rickshaw Financing Program’ for Uber partner-drivers in Pakistan.

Through this partnership, Uber aims to provide a solution for driver-partners who are unable to finance their own vehicle. CCI Pakistan inaugurates US$ 45 million Greenfield bottling plant in Faisalabad

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir)  CCI Pakistan, Coca-Cola’s bottler in Pakistan inaugurated its Greenfield bottling plant in Faisalabad today. CCI Pakistan is a subsidiary of Coca-Cola İçecek (CCI), headquartered in Turkey, the sixth-largest bottler in the Coca-Cola system globally. Set up with an investment of US$ 45 million, the facility is CCI Pakistan’s 6th plant in the country and CCI’s 26th in the region. The new plant in Faisalabad comprises of CCI’s fastest and highest capacity PET lines and will add 450 million liters to the company’s volume annually. CCI has invested more than US$ 500 million in its business in Pakistan since 2008.

CCI Pakistan has a total of 25 production lines, 530+ distributors and more 330,000 sales points and is catering to a consumer base of 208 million people. In the last 10 years CCI Pakistan has almost doubled its market share.

Speaking at the occasion Mr. Tuncay Özilhan, Chairman Anadolu Group and Coca-Cola İçecek stated, “I am extremely proud to be here today for the opening of CCI’s Faisalabad Greenfield Plant. Shaan-e-Pakistan presents SEPHUB- A collaborative platform for Fashion // Art & Music

Back in 2016, the concept of #KyaDilliKyaLahore was introduced. The idea was to collaborate with International talent to showcase culture, hospitality and celebration and that spirit is present in this edition as well. This year they have collaborated with Dubai based Pritti Nanda; organizer of Sopritti and a credible name in the Fashion Industry Internationally to present SEPHUBxSOPRITTI

The designers in question are Power duo- Rimple & Harpreet. Amalgamating modern and traditional designs with sheer aesthetics and unsullied dexterities they will be showcasing their new collection on 3rd May in a selective invite only event, Rimple & Harpreet have decorated the queen of Indian Film Industry, Deepika Padukone, gracefully in the movie Padmavat. These glamorous designs that speak color and talk tradition will also be up for Exhibition Open for Public on 4th May at Pi & Co. Karachi from 10 am to 8pm with Designer present. The Power Couple will be joined by the Pakistani Power Duo who are the Shaan-e-Pakistan for 28 years now;  Huma and Amir Adnan

Shaan-e-Pakistan is acclaimed for its music content ‘Ek Shaam Pakistan kay Naam” and like previous seasons with Late Amjad Sabri opening in the first year in New Delhi and Rekha Bhardwaj and Syed Asrar opening in Lahore; this year it will be held on the 2nd May .There are, however, some new additions in the content that have been introduced into the show structure. It will be a 16 Minutes collaborative Music // Fashion and Art display with Design to feature some of the top models of Pakistan curated through art while walking down the ramp. Huma and Aamir Adnan will be showcasing in their segment called Yeh hai Shaan-e-Pakistan for which the song is done by Javed Bashir.

SEPHUBxSOPRITTI will be following this up and scaling it further with Tarun Tahilliani in September with a similar collaboration of Fashion//Music //Art and ensure the campaign of Shaan-e-Pakistan keeps moving.
