Tetra Pak and WWF to mentor 10,000 Pakistani students on waste recycling awareness

Tetra Pak Pakistan, a frontrunner in sustainable food processing and packaging solutions, has partnered with WWF Pakistan for the sixth consecutive year to continue its nationwide awareness program aimed at educating young Pakistani students on the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. This year, the student engagement drive will span across 50 schools situated in the metropolitan cities of Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

Over 10,000 Pakistani students, between the age group of 5 to 13 years and studying in grades 1 to 7, will benefit from this unique opportunity which is based on the modern teaching method of experience-based learning. Volkan Aydeniz, Sustainability Director at Tetra Pak, officially kicked off the student engagement in partnership with WWF training executives. So far, the team has already conducted around 18 recycling awareness sessions, involving more than 1700 students from 17 schools in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad and moving fast towards the target. Both private and government schools are included in the campaign, which will comprise a total of 120 sessions.

Visual aids including educational animation videos, engaging storytelling sessions, interactive group activities such as arts and crafts sessions, and learning how to create useful items using recycled Tetra Pak cartons, are meant to help the students realize the importance of real-world challenges such as environment conservation, waste reduction, material reuse, and waste recycling. The program aims to make sustainability and recycling an exciting and memorable learning experience for young minds. These sessions also underscore Tetra Pak’s firm commitment towards promoting sustainability.

To commemorate their participation, all students will receive an activity book, and this year, they will also have the opportunity to participate in a carton collection and recycling competition. As a novel addition to this year’s campaign, students will actively participate in collecting Used Beverage Carton (UBC) waste, fostering a sense of responsibility towards recycling. The collected cartons will be donated for further processing, contributing to a sustainable and circular approach to packaging.

This Recycling Awareness Campaign stands as a testament to Tetra Pak’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and WWF’s dedication to fostering a future where humans and nature thrive together. Through education and action, the campaign aims to instill a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness in the younger generation.

 

ONE YEAR OF NON-STOP CINEMA SCREENING: THE LEGEND OF MAULA JATT CONTINUES ITS SUCCESSFUL RUN

Making history once again, the global blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt completed one year of non-stop screening in Pakistan as the film has an unbroken run at Universal Cinemas and Centaurus Cinemas on the occasion of its first release anniversary. Cue Cinema, Lahore and Atrium Cinemas, Karachi have made the film available once again for audience to watch.

Since its release in October 2022 in Pakistan and the rest of the world, The Legend of Maula Jatt has gone on to rule the theatres across the world and has led to Pakistani cinema’s miraculous domination on the Subcontinent’s box office, post-COVID. The director of the film, Bilal Lashari, recently won the ‘Best Filmmaker’ award for ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ at the Bollywood Film Festival Norway and was also awarded one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards, Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his contribution to cinema, on Pakistan’s Independence Day.

The mega-hit directed by Bilal Lahsari and produced by Ammara Hikmat became the highest grossing film from the subcontinent in 2022. The film broke records by becoming the highest grossing Punjabi film of all time worldwide in the 4th week of its release. Before this, the film has managed to make many other records and has many titles to its name including; Highest Grossing Pakistani Film, 2nd Highest Grossing film from the Subcontinent in UK for the year 2022 & the Most Watched South Asian film in Norway.

The film has collected over 13.88 million USD worldwide after releasing in Russia on the 28th of September 2023. TLOMJ was released on 13th October 2022 globally in 25 different territories with 500+ screens making it one of the biggest releases to come out of Pakistan. Due to popular demand the film continued to release in various markets after 6 months of its release.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is the directorial masterpiece of Bilal Lashari. The film boasts an ensemble cast starring Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Ali Azmat, Saima Baloch and Faris Shafi alongside veterans such as Shafqat Cheema, Nayyer Ejaz, Resham, Babar Ali and Raheela Agha. Produced by Ammara Hikmat and Asad J. Khan under the joint venture of Encyclomedia & Lashari Films in association with AAA Motion Pictures of Ali Murtaza with a screenplay by Bilal Lashari and dialogues by Nasir Adeeb, the movie is a hard reboot of the 1979 cult classic ‘Maula Jatt’.

The filmmakers have partnered with Geo Films as their presenting partner, the largest media group and key contributor to the revival of cinema in Pakistan. The film is being locally distributed by Nadeem Mandviwalla of Mandviwalla Entertainment, who is well known for his contribution to the cinema over the decades. Internationally, the film is being distributed by MovieGoers Entertainment.

CARETAKER CHIEF MINISTER PUNJAB ASSESSES PROGRESS AT CBD PUNJAB Quaid and Bab i pakistan PROJECT SITE

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, visited Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), project site to assess the progress of the development work for CBD Punjab phases 2,3 and Main Boulevard linkage to Bab E Pakistan, Walton Road, Lahore. During the visit, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab was provided a comprehensive briefing by the CEO of CBD Punjab, Imran Amin, highlighting the significant advancements made in the project. Executive Director Technical CBD Punjab, Riaz Hussain, Project Director CBD Punjab, Asif Iqbal and senior officials of CBD Punjab were present during the briefing.

CBD Punjab has embarked on the development of phases 2 and 3, along with the establishment of a linkage between the Main Boulevard Lahore and Bab E Pakistan, Walton Road. Notably, CBD Punjab will construct flyovers at Ghora Chowk, Lahore, Walton Railway Crossing, and Bab-e-Pakistan, addressing key traffic congestion points.Construction of a roundabout at Kalma Chowk has also been advised by CBD Punjab.

Expressing his vision for timely project completion, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab emphasized the importance of providing maximum relief to the people. He directed the authorities to ensure that the newly constructed roads are wide enough to accommodate the increasing traffic load, a crucial consideration for enhancing transportation efficiency.

Amir Paracha elected President of OICCI – the largest business Chamber in Pakistan based on economic contribution.
