LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Metropolitan Planning Wing Private Housing Scheme’s squad Tuesday demolished structures in 12 illegal housing schemes at Shahzada Road and Ferozepur Road. According to a spokesperson for the LDA here, the Authority demolished under-construction roads, sewerage system, green-belts and other infrastructure of Al-Bashir Homes, Al-Fajar City, Al-Noor Park, Chughtai Garden, Engineer Park, Hamza Town, Ammad Garden, Shaheen Garden, Pearl Garden, Naseeb Abad, Kahna Canal View, and Al-Jannat Homes (Iqbal block). The LDA also sealed office of these illegal housing schemes.

Hajj pilgrims asked for second jab of Covid vaccine

 

ISLAMABAD: People who have received their Hajj permits for this year’s pilgrimage should visit their nearest vaccine center to receive their second jab within 48 hours of the permit being issued, the Saudi Arabia”s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has said on Tuesday. Just 60,000 people will be allowed to perform Hajj as registration for it was only open to citizens and residents of the Kingdom. The ministry’s portal received more than 550,000 applications before registration closed last Wednesday. Pilgrims should either be fully vaccinated, have had one dose at least 14 days before Hajj, or be vaccinated after recovering from a coronavirus infection. The ministry urged people with permits to get vaccinated, assuring them that no appointment was needed, Arab News reported . More than 17.2 million vaccine doses have been administered in Saudi Arabia so far, with a Ministry of Health spokesman saying that nobody had died from COVID-19 after completing the vaccination course.

ISLAMABAD: Prince Faisal bin Salman, the Governor of Madinah region, has tasked all agencies involved with Hajj to review and enhance their preparations for welcoming pilgrims to the Prophet’s Mosque and to other mosques and Islamic sites in the region. He said his call is based on directives from the Saudi leadership designed to ensure that all possible efforts are made to help pilgrims and provide the services they require. The Prince was speaking as he presided over a meeting to provide updates on Hajj preparations by the authorities, along with developments in the health situation in the region, Arab News reported. He highlighted the need to follow up on preparations for a field hospital in the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque, which will provide medical services until the new Al-Salam Hospital, close to the mosque, is fully operational. Prince Faisal said the hospital will enhance the health services provided to worshipers and visitors. The construction of Al-Salam Hospital for Emergency and Critical Care in Madinah was announced by the Ministry of Health in October last year.

IHC removes NBP President, Chairman BoD

 

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday ordered removal of President, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Arif Usmani and Chairman Board of Directors (BoD), Zubair Soomro. IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani announced the judgment in a petition filed against the appointment of the NBP president. The high court had reserved the verdict on June 11. Earlier, the petitioners Syed Jahangir, Javed Iqbal, Fazal Raheem and Latif Qureshi had contended that the NBP president”s appointment was against the Public Sector Guidelines 2015, while Usmani did not hold a relevant degree.

No annual exams for students from Class Prep-VII, FDE notifies

 

ISLAMABAD: Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has notified on Tuesday that there will be no annual examinations for the students from Class Prep to VII and all the students shall be promoted to next respective class. However 04 formative/classroom assessments per subject of every student must be kept in school record duly verified by respective head of institutions. Out of the total four assessments (carrying 100 percent marks), each assessment will comprise of 25 percent marks. This was announced by FDE through a notification issued here titled `Promotion Policy for Class I to VIII for Academic Session 2020-21’. According to the promotion policy announced for Class VIII, the in house examinations shall be conducted by respective head of institution as per centralized date sheet. Minimum pass percentage achieved in each subject shall be 35 percent for this academic year only. The policy stated that the percentage marks of each subject shall be entered in institutional examinational record and no students shall be retained in previous class whatsoever the result may be. Students obtained overall 55 percent aggregates in Class VIII examinations shall have unrestricted choice to opt for either Science group or Humanities. According to the schedule of results 2021-22 (new Academic Session) issued by the FDE, the result of Class VIII should be declared on July 30 or 31, 2021.

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Tuesday passed the Finance Bill, 2021 with majority vote and as many as 240 lawmakers participated in debate on federal budget which continued for around 10 days. Minister for Finance Shaukat Fayaz Ahmed Tarin moved the Finance Bill, 2021 in the House following which the opposition lawmakers debated it. PPPP MNA Nawab Yousaf Ahmed Talpur demanded to conduct counting on the motion moved for consideration of the bill. A total of 172 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion while 138 lawmakers opposed it. The motion was passed with majority vote which led to the passage of Finance Bill, 2021 after clause by clause reading as well as voice voting along with amendments. Earlier, around 240 MNAs participated in the budget debate which formally continued from June 14 to June 24, 2021 (10 working days) while a total of 128 demands for grants were also approved. According to the Rule 187 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in National Assembly 2007, not less than four days shall be allotted for the general discussion on the budget. However, the National Assembly continued debate on the finance bill, 2021 for 10 days. The National Assembly could not initiate debate for three consecutive days (June 14 to June 16, 2021) due to ruckus in the House and tussle between the treasury and the opposition benches. The formal debate started on June 17, 2021 and it continued till June 24, 2021. The House also discussed recommendation of the Senate and 12 MNAs expressed their views on it. The Finance Minister concluded debate on Finance Bill, 2021 on June 25, 2021. The House held discussion on the Charged Expenditure included in Demands for Grants and Appropriations for the financial year ending on June 30, 2022. The House approved 128 demands for grants related to various departments and ministries.

Pakistan earns 1708m from IT services export in 10 months

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan earned US $1708.120 million by providing different Information Technology (IT) services in various countries during the first ten months of financial year 2020-21. This shows growth of 45.88 percent as compared to US $1170.920 million earned through provision of services during the corresponding period of fiscal year 2019-20, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported. During the period under review, the computer services grew by 48.72 percent as it surged from US $902.710 million last year to US $1342.500 million during July-April (2020-21). Among the computer services, the exports of software consultancy services witnessed increase of 27.65 percent, from US $347.072 million to US $443.051 million while the export and import of computer software related services also rose by 27.89 percent, from US $259.319 million to US $331.652 million. The exports of hardware consultancy services dropped by 75.78 percent from, US $1.883 million to US $0.4560 million whereas the exports of repair and maintenance services also decline by 68.04 percent from $1.452 million to $0.464 million. In addition the exports of other computer services rose by 93.48 percent from US$292.984 million to US $566.877 million. Meanwhile, the export of information services during the period under review also increased by 62 percent by going up from US $ 2.000 million to US $3.240 million. Among the information services, the exports of news agency services increased by 66.51 percent, from US $ 1.060 million to US $ 1.765 million whereas the exports of other information services also increased by 56.91 percent, from US $ 0.940 million to US $ 1.475 million. The export of telecommunication services also witnessed an increase of 45.88 percent as these went up from US $266.210 million to US $362.380 million during the financial year under review, the data revealed.

Qureshi convenes national security meeting over Afghan situation

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday said the meeting on national security, to be attended by representatives of all parliamentary parties, would focus on the current security situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the region. In a statement, the foreign minister said the government had invited around 17 parliamentarians for the meeting being held on July 1.“The purpose of convening the meeting is to update the members of the parliament on the security situation in the region,” he said. Qureshi said Pakistan would take decisions that better served its national interest. To check money laundering, he said, the government had taken serious steps for its prevention. “We are committed to effectively control terror-financing,” he added. The foreign minister said Pakistan desired peace in Afghanistan and was playing a conciliatory role towards the success of Afghan peace process.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) second semester course on film production online classes would be started from August 2. Director General PNCA Dr. Fouzia Saeed told media that the registration process was completed for the second semester. She said that national and international faculty would train and educate students on film production in this program. Dr. Fouzia said that Arts Council was making efforts to create an environment for the youngster to groom their artistic skills in various arts forms. She said the curriculum is a mix of intellectual understanding, skill-based learning and on-the-ground experience of working in a professional environment. DG PNCA said the second programme was focused on film production with a full understanding of film making. She said that PNCA was also planning to organize a grand graduation ceremony for the first semester graduates of ”online one-year film production program”. PNCA Film section has started an “online one-year film production program” in the previous quarter.

Pakistan’s Irfan registers his 43rd Guinness World Record

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani martial artist, Irfan Mehsood, has registered his 43rd Guinness World Record by achieving the latest for the most push-ups (one leg raised carrying 100lb pack) in one minute. “I broke France’s Eric Lejeune’s record to achieve the feat. Eric had made 31 in one minute while I did 43,” he told media on Tuesday. Irfan said he attempted the record in February in Dera Ismial Khan. “I have earned a total of 43 Guinness World Record titles, 23 of which are for various push-up challenges,” he said. Irfan hoped to promote his region of Waziristan and inspire people, especially the youth of his country, to stay fit and active. He also hoped to keep achieving record titles for fitness and martial arts-related records. Irfan Mehsud has so far broke 13 Guinness World Records for India and several of USA, UK, Iraq, Spain, Italy, Philippines, Egypt, India and France.
