Pakistan (Nut Desk)  Saadhay 14 August is all set to begin performances in Islamabad after successfully finishing 100 shows in Karachi. The play, which has been written by the eminent Anwar Maqsood and directed by Daawar Mehmood, was able to gather audiences from all walks of life, and individuals of all ages and genders. It drew packed houses from the first performance until the very last.

The famous play will be performed for the first time in Islamabad on January 7, 2023. The play, Saadhay 14 August which features some of the most well-known national figures from both the past and present, is a part of the trilogical series that was first staged as Pawnay 14 August, ten years ago. The series’ final chapter, Saadhay 14 August commemorates its conclusion. The play’s legendary writer, Anwar Maqsood states “This series is really close to my heart and was made while keeping something positive while also considering the current plight of the nation. We expect that Saadhay 14 August will receive the same level of support in Islamabad as it has in Karachi.”

According to M. Ahmed Shah, President – Arts Council of Pakistan, “Anwar Maqsood has actually brought theatre back to Pakistan, and when it is his screenplay, we are sure it will be adored and admired by the public and would draw huge crowds to the theatre.”

When questioned about his expectations for Islamabad, director Daawar Mehmood said: “Like Karachi, we hope to exceed the expectations of the crowd in Islamabad. The play has all the necessary ingredients for a successful theatrical presentation, including a superb script written by none other than Anwar Maqsood, outstanding acting, scenes and sets that were carefully built with attention to detail of each region being portrayed.”

From January 7th till February 7th 2023, the team will start performances in Islamabad. The play Saadhay 14 August is the perfect example of how a serious issue can be handled in a light-hearted, entertaining, and humorous manner while still capturing the audience’s attention.

ASSITEJ Pakistan announces call for applications for 4th Next Generation Program Pakistan.

ASSITEJ Pakistan has been running Next Generation, a theater residency program of ASSITEJ International since past three years. We hosted two workshops in 2018 and 2019 where participants attended in-person and one online workshop during Covid-19 lockdown in 2021.

The program is bringing emerging artists together to share, exchange, learn and present. The program has a showcase of projects and works, discussion sessions, development of collaborative performances and performance showcase.

Through Next Generation Programs, nearly 30 artists come together, 15 from Pakistan and 15 international young theatre makers for 11 days to learn from each other and co-create short performances.

This year the artists from the following countries are coming to Pakistan; Mexico, Italy, USA, Russia, Iceland
South Africa, Srilanka, Australia, Malawi, Lithuania, Finland and Uganda.

The program will be held from 8-18 February in Lahore this year.

A number of seasoned Pakistani theater makers are engaged in the Next Generation program each year. This is presented as an opportunity to explore the potential of Pakistani theater for local audiences, but also with an international lens.

ASSITEJ Pakistan president Shoaib Iqbal said;” Our Next Generation Theater Residency program is very special this year. We are able to bring participation from about 15 countries as it is happening after the gap of two years due to Covid-19. Second, we aim to inspire emerging Pakistan theater makers to learn from this global exposure and build a network that can help them for various new opportunities in theatre and performing arts. Our ultimate goal is to revive theater for children and young audiences in Pakistan so emerging and professional theater makers produce theater for children and young people to experience as an art form.”

ASSITEJ Pakistan is committed to engage young aspiring artists and professional theatre-makers from all over the world and Pakistan interested in TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences).

ASSITEJ Pakistan has organised 2 Tamasha Theater Festival of Performing Arts in the past. ASSITEJ Pakistan is preparing to present an international festival this year as well. The festival presents theater and performing arts for children and young people in Lahore. Last theater festival saw international participation for 3 countries and this year it will be realised as a truly international festival in Lahore.

ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People) unites theatres, organizations and individuals throughout the world who make theatre for children and young people.

ASSITEJ Pakistan – National Centre is a chapter of ASSITEJ International. The organization is a platform for everyone working with or having an interest in performing arts for children and youth. ASSITEJ Pakistan works to spread knowledge of Pakistani performing arts for children and youth by organizing exchange programs, performances, festivals, workshops and seminars.

Glowing tributes were paid yesterday to eminent playwright Shahid Nadeem for his sustained contribution to meaningful theatre and television at an elegant ceremony held at Alhamra Art Centre. The event was organised by Ajoka Theatre in collaboration with Lahore Arts Council, to celebrate Ajoka head’s 50 years as a playwright. The programme included launching of Shahid Nadeem’s two books, screening of extracts from his TV dramas and telefilms, theatre songs and an impressive medley of his famous plays. First book to be launched was “ Hum Dekhain Gae (Mazahmti Dramae)”, which was launched by Captain (Rtd) Atta Mohammad, former Executive Director of Lahore Arts Council. The book includes “ Dara”, “ Dushman”, “Dukhini”, “Dekh Tamasha” and “Saira aur Maira”. The cover image was designed by famous artist Sumaya Durrani. The second book “ Baghi Dramay” is a collection of Shahid’s five Punjabi plays, including “ Mera Rang Day Basanti Chola”, “Kari”, “Itt”, “Chal Melay noon Chaliay” and “Marya Hoya Kutta”. The book was launched by senior artist Dr Ajaz Anwar, who had also designed the book cover. After the book launching, a Shahid’s theatre songs were presented by Ajoka singers, followed by a selection of iconic scenes from Shahid’s TV plays and films including Neelay Hath, Zard Dopehar, Ghairat, Janjaalpura, Mujahid and Manto. Those who paid tributes to Shahid Nadeem’s work included Asghar Nadeem Syed, Hassan Jaffar Zaidi, Savera Nadeem, Sohail Warraich, Zara Salman, Nirvaan Nadeem and Fizza Jamal. The programme concluded with an powerful theatre presentation of Shahid’s plays including Dara, Bulha, Teesri Dastak, Talismati Tota, Burqavaganza, Dekh Tamasha and Bala King. The cast included Ajoka veteran Sarfraz Ansari, Naseem Abbas, Usman Raj, Razia Malik, Usman Zia, Mohammad Qaiser and Luke Calvin. Those who attended the event included Salima Hashmi, Farrukh Sohail Goindi, Khalid Javed Jan, Ghazala Irfan, Baba Najmi, Dr Waseem Anwar, Durre Najaf Zebi, Barrister Maqsooma Bukhari, Khalid Ghayas, Sumera Samad, Brig ( Rtd) Azam Jamal and Lahore Arts Council Chairman Razi Ahmad. Ajoka Will hold a special event to celebrate the golden jubilee of Shahid Nadeem’s 50 years as a playwright this Friday. The event will include theatrical press compilation of Shahid Nadeem’s famous plays including Dara, Bulha, Kala Meda Bhes, Burqavaganza, Teesri Dastak and Bala King. Artists will also sing his theatre songs. Extracts from Shahid’s popular TV plays such as Neelay Hath, Zara Depehar, Uraan Janjaalpura and Manto will be screened. The event will start with launching of two books of Shahid’s plays: “Hum Dekhain Gae” (Urdu) and “ Baghi Dramay”(Punjabi).

Eminent personalities from Pakistan and India will attend the event which is organised in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council.

Written and directed by Lollywood veteran Parvez Kaleem, is revolves around an interesting story with fresh star cast including Ali Abbas Syed, Amna Rahi and Zaria Khan, while Lollywood ‘s senior artists Madiha Shah, Nagmah Begum and comedian Iftikhar Thakur are also appearing in pivotal roles. The new release date will be announced soon. According to the film’s production team, the release of “Rang Ishqe Da” has been postpond due to the government’s new directive regarding operational hours for cinemas, as the decision to close cinemas after 8 pm is not suitable for the film business at all. Earlier “Rang Ishq-e-Da” was scheduled to be release on December 23 from the platform of Distribution Club, while it will be screened in cinemas in other countries including Canada, UK and Australia besides Pakistan also. Distribution Club Executive Director Sheikh Abid said. “Rang Ishq-e- Da” is a quality family film with a fresh star cast which will be released soon in theaters across the country as per the decision of the producers.
