Pakistan’s first beachfront housing project launched in Gwadar district

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) With surging real estate demand in Gwadar because of CPEC, a local company, Eiwan, launched Pakistan’s first beach front, resort style housing project called Oshun by Eiwan. Envisioned as a ‘resort style living’ community, this iconic project is nestled in between pristine beaches on one side and miraculously carved mountain ranges on the other, making Oshun by Eiwan, the finest address in Pakistan.

One hundred and fifty real estate dealers flocked to the launch event for Oshun by Eiwan held in Karachi, with the expectation that the project marks a new beginning for the real estate sector in the country. ‘In my 30 year experience in this business, I have never seen such a high level of professionalism and trust in an urban developer,’ shared Rizwan Ahmad, a prominent real estate dealer who travelled from Rawalpindi to attend the event.

While owning a slice of the new silk route is becoming a reality thanks to CPEC, there are lots of real estate firms selling property in Gwadar. Not all of them are trustworthy. You have to pick to a developer you can trust. For too long, local investors, overseas Pakistanis and young professionals have had to navigate a notoriously low trust market, which makes property investments unnecessarily complex and risky in Gwadar.

Fortunately, the Consultants Group, which was given end to end responsibility by the Government of Baluchistan to manage Sangar – Gwadar’s number one housing project – has now launched a new private sector, urban development company, called Eiwan (www.eiwan.pk). According to sources, a 1000 square yard commercial plot in Gwadar’s Sangar Housing Project in 2015, could be bought for 26 lac rupees. Today, that same plot is worth Rs. 50 million. This was possible due to high standards of land governance and digitization of land records for Sangar, which brought credibility as well as trust to the project.

‘Eiwan is here to revolutionize and professionalize the real estate industry in Pakistan,’ shares Faiz Kidwai, Chief Executive Officer, CG Holdings Private Limited. ‘We currently have builders and constructors but don’t have developers in a true sense in Pakistan. Our vision is to create an urban development company where all our stakeholders are in a win-win situation, from investors to residents, as well the local communities in which we operate. We have a vision to create Pakistan’s most trusted urban development brand for the next 100 years.’

GE’s Advanced Gas Path Upgrades Generate $775 Million in Total Customer Value Annually

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Continuing its commitment to deliver solutions to help power producers remain competitive in a dynamic energy marketplace, GE’s Power Services business (NYSE: GE) has expanded its Advanced Gas Path (AGP) capabilities around the world.  Over the past several years, GE’s AGP technology has been installed on 435 units across four of its gas turbine fleets, generating $775 million a year in benefits to power producers and the markets they serve in 39 countries on five continents.

“Our high-performing AGP solutions have been proven around the world for nearly a decade by improving gas plant performance and competitiveness to help meet growing power demands,” said Scott Strazik, president and CEO of GE’s Power Services business. “AGP is delivering benefits on a global scale to our customers in mature markets such as the United States and Western Europe, where efficiency and flexibility are crucial. At the same time, AGP is helping our customers in growing markets like the Middle East, Africa, Asia, China and Eastern Europe, where they need more megawatts for industrial use and the grid.”

Today, GE announced three milestones with its AGP technology: an agreement to upgrade gas turbines in Italy, as well as two installations at power plants in Iraq and Turkey.

In Italy, GE will help Edison, part of Electricité de France (EDF Group) and Italy’s second largest integrated energy company, enhance its performance with AGP upgrades for a GE 9F.03 gas turbine at its Candela combined-cycle power station in Puglia, Italy. The upgrades are expected to increase the plant’s output by 5 percent and improve its global efficiency by almost 1 percentage point. In addition, GE’s predictive maintenance software and cybersecurity solution will improve Candela’s asset visibility, reliability and security while decreasing operating and maintenance costs at the plant.

In Iraq, GE installed AGP on four of its gas turbines at the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity’s (MOE’s) Najibiya power plant, one of the eight sites where GE is installing a total of 36 AGP units as part of the Iraq Power Up Plan II. AGP will help each turbine run for up to an additional three months a year when the plant is powered by heavy fuel oil. As a result, the plant will increase the amount of electricity available for both domestic and commercial use, helping to meet the country’s growing energy needs. It will also help the MOE to lower annual operations and maintenance costs.

In addition, the installation of AGP technology on 10 GE gas turbines was finalized at ENKA’s power plants. The result was a 6 percent output increase on the GE 9F gas turbines. The project was the first order for GE’s 9F AGP technology, which delivered upgraded performance and operational flexibility.

GE’s AGP solution has delivered significant market-based benefits around the globe, including providing about 7 gigawatts of additional power capacity. AGP is generating nearly 19.4 million additional megawatt-hours (MWh) of power a year, which is enough to power approximately 2 million homes.

With AGP upgrades, GE 9F gas turbines can achieve up to an 8 percent output increase and up to a 2 percent efficiency increase, whereas GE 6F gas turbines can realize up to a 4.2 percent output increase and up to a 1.2 percent efficiency increase. GE’s 9E gas turbine operations with AGP upgrades have achieved up to a 6.2 percent output increase and up to a 1.7 percent efficiency increase.

GE Power Helps Rebuild 750 MW Al Qayara Power Plant

Lahore –  GE Power (NYSE: GE) is demonstrating its commitment to support Iraq to strengthen its power infrastructure by helping to bring back to life the 750 megawatts (MW) Al Qayara Power Plant that was damaged in the recent conflict in Mosul. GE’s team is working with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity to repair six GE 9E gas turbines, replace a damaged oil treatment system and fuel tanks and carry out other restoration works on the balance of plant equipment with the goal to recommence power production at the facility by the end of the year.

Mussab Almudaris, official spokesperson of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, said, “There was extensive damage to Mosul’s power plants during the conflict, which has severely curtailed the city’s electricity generation capacity. One of our top priorities for Mosul is to rebuild the city’s electricity infrastructure and strengthen power production to meet the everyday needs of our citizens. We value the support extended by GE Power, which was one of the first companies to join our reconstruction efforts.”

The Al-Qayara Power Plant was first set up in 2013 and served as a key hub for power production in Mosul. It was damaged by militants in 2016 and has been out of operation since then.

“Basic infrastructure services such as the reliable supply of power are essential to stabilize the region, facilitate the return of displaced populations and stimulate the local economy,” said Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE’s Power Services business in Africa, India and the Middle East. “The Al Qayara Power Plant is an essential part of Mosul’s power infrastructure and we are committed to working with the Ministry of Electricity to accelerate repair and restoration works so the site can start to generate power again within the year.”

GE has a strong legacy of contributions towards building Iraq’s power sector. This includes providing fast-track power for emergency restoration of electricity in distressed areas; converting power plants from simple cycle to combined cycle configuration; multi-year services to improve the reliability and efficiency of operations; upgrades solutions to increase the availability, output and efficiency of the existing installed power generation asset base; the implementation of digital industrial solutions to monitor, analyze, predict and enhance equipment health; as well as equipping and setting up electric substations to strengthen the national grid.

GE is showcasing these efforts around developing Iraq’s power infrastructure and exhibiting its leading portfolio of solutions at the Iraq Energy Exhibition and Conference during April 2-4, 2018.

“With over 50 years of presence in Iraq, GE is committed to the development of the country and its people,” said William Wakileh, President and CEO of GE Iraq and Levant. “We are bringing advanced energy, healthcare and transportation technologies to the country, helping to unlock financing from various sources to support the execution of critical projects and employ up to 300 people in Iraq, more than 95 percent of whom are Iraqi nationals.”

To date, over 130 GE turbines have been installed across Iraq and GE-built technologies generate up to 50 percent of Iraq’s power. With offices in Baghdad, Erbil and Basra, GE continues to deliver its latest technology and expertise to local customers.
