Keh Do – a motivational series written by Junaid Khan gets selected for the Zee5 Global Content Festival

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Keh Do a beautiful narration on life has been nominated for the Zee5 Global Content Festival. A Carrett production in collaboration with Junaid Khan has produced this beautiful motivational video that was released in the midst of the pandemic in 2020.

Written by Junaid Khan and produced/directed by Moiz Abbas Rizvi, Keh Do was released at the peak of the global chaos where lives were getting disrupted left right and center. This is where Junaid Khan along with his enigmatic team came up with this mindful idea of creating content that would heal the mind, body and soul.

Keh Do is all about how Junaid teaches us on how to remain positive and happy and the power of all this is in our mind. How positive thinking can change and make a difference and help one achieve the heights of mental peace and serenity. He talks about how from a shy and timid child he became who he is now and how he conquered his fears and hurdles. And this is exactly what makes the video inspirational and motivational all at the same time.

Shot in the most beautiful manner the words and the visuals both preach the same message as this video has immense healing powers. “I was very happy to find out that Keh Do has been selected for the Zee5 Global Content Festival. Even if I get to touch one life from this video and inspire someone then that would be the best thing ever. Because after all it takes a village – to make the world a better place”.

Meta introduces special initiatives for online safety of women in Pakistan

Islamabad (Muhammad Yasir) Meta has launched two new initiatives in Pakistan, focused on womens’ safety online that includes the Online Safety Guide and StopNCII (Non consensual intimate images) to help users to safely navigate cyberspace. The critical safety advisory available in English and Urdu is expected to boost digital literacy and responsible online behaviour amongst users, thereby creating safer online spaces for women to connect and express themselves without restraints.

The safety guide, now available at Meta’s Safety Centre, is part of the company’s efforts to equip and prepare users for the challenges of the modern digital world. Millions of people in Pakistan use Meta platforms to connect and pursue shared interests. However, it is always good to update oneself on issues around online harassment, unwanted messages and a range of fraudulent and criminal activities in the online space.

Meta has policies and systems in place to tackle online violence  against women, aided  by awareness programs to enable and empower them to defend themselves against unscrupulous elements online.

The safety guide features all the tools around safety available on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp and explains how women can adopt them for safer internet use and protect themselves from criminal & fraudulent activities.

Keeping the focus on safety, StopNCII was developed with Meta’s expert guidance and funding in collaboration with global NGO partner, ‘the UK Revenge Porn Helpline’, to stop the sharing of non-consensual intimate images (NCII), often referred to as Revenge Porn. StopNCII.org has a global footprint and currently services people through regional partners that advocate for local victims. It uses the latest innovative technology to block compromising photos and videos proactively from spreading online.

Meta has localised StopNCII into an Urdu portal as well that can be used by users  concerned for their online safety and privacy to initiate a case. Once the case is initiated, Meta can proactively block the spread of the compromising images and videos before they can spread online. The technology doesn’t require the images to leave the person’s device, instead only the hash or numerical code is shared with the platform. The portal also integrates information and vital voices of survivors, experts, advocates, and tech partners of Meta for women seeking help and guidance.

Meta’s partner organisation in Pakistan, Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) organised an online roundtable in connection with the launch of the StopNCII portal in Urdu. The participants of the roundtable included representatives from civil society organizations, regional experts from Meta, digital experts and rights activists.

Engro Foundation becomes the Largest National Supporter of the Indus River Dolphin

Karachi (Muhammad Yasir) WWF-Pakistan and Engro Foundation, the social investment arm of Engro Corporation, entered into a first-of-its-kind partnership for the conservation and management of the endangered Indus River dolphins.

The project will focus on the core habitat of the 500 km (approximate) Indus River stretch between Taunsa and Sukkur barrages. This stretch is a habitat of approximately 1,800 Indus River dolphins and overlaps with the Indus Flyway, which is a globally important route of migratory birds. The area has immense ecological and cultural significance as the Guddu – Sukkur stretch is a protected area, Indus Dolphin Reserve, and was declared a Ramsar wetland under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and Key Biodiversity Area (KBA). Similarly, the Taunsa – Guddu River section is home to the second-largest Indus dolphin population of 660 individuals.

The selected project area supports 90 per cent population of the Indus River dolphin, eight species of freshwater turtles, smooth-coated otters, hog deer and fishing cats. The project area and the adjoining wetlands support many endangered and threatened migratory birds as well. Considering that the Indus River dolphin is the top predator and keystone species of the river, saving and protecting it will support the conservation of the other important species including migratory birds and freshwater turtles.

As part of the project, Engro Foundation along with WWF-Pakistan will work towards protection, conservation and management for the viable population of the Indus River dolphin and its habitat, using internationally developed and tested tools and technological advancements. The partners will also be undertaking a comprehensive dolphin survey, along with awareness and outreach efforts to foster commitment from the government, communities, and other stakeholders, to achieve the desired project outcomes. Moreover, the project aims to create a strong relationship of the citizens (communities, civil society, students, teachers and youth) with the Indus River and its associated biodiversity through monitoring of the river’s health parameters and biodiversity (dolphins, turtles, migratory birds). The project will help diversify the existing livelihoods of the fisherfolk and other indigenous wetlands-dependent communities to reduce pressure from the riverine resources.

According to Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General, WWF-Pakistan “Engro Foundation’s support to the Indus River dolphin fits in with the global priorities for the conservation of river dolphins agreed in the Global River Dolphin Strategy. Owning a species that is endemic to the Indus River system is our responsibility because only we can conserve it. It is an iconic and powerful species of the freshwater ecosystem which helps in conveying a strong message that rivers are alive, and are not resources to exploit.”

According to Ghias Khan, President and CEO Engro Corporation and Trustee of Engro Foundation, “The Indus River dolphin, which is seen as a part of Pakistan’s heritage, is, unfortunately, facing an existential threat. As a socially responsible business that is committed to helping solve some of the pressing issues of Pakistan, we are excited to partner with WWF-Pakistan for this unique project. We hope that our humble contribution will prove to be exemplary and encourage wider support for this initiative to enable the zero extinction global goals of the WWF Network.”

This project will be a part of the River Dolphin Rivers Initiative of WWF International under Freshwater Practice. The project is aligned with the Global River Dolphin Strategy, which was jointly developed by leading global conservation organizations such as the Whales and Dolphin Society, UK and IUCN/Cetacean Specialist Group, among others.
