It not only attracts students from colleges and universities worldwide, but also cultivates excellent ICT talent. He hopes Huawei will continue to make great contributions to cultivating more digital talent and supporting global digital transformation.

During this year’s competition, Huawei will hold several online events. At the global summit forum, leaders from industry organizations, government officials, and university presidents will discuss education continuity following the spread of COVID-19. At the Datacom Certification global launch conference, Huawei will globally release its criteria for future Datacom talent. At the teaching seminar, professors will share their latest practices and views on ICT talent cultivation.

The participants of this competition hail from around the world, and are students in Huawei ICT Academies and higher education institutions that have joined the Huawei ICT Academy program. Through the competition, Huawei aims to provide students with a platform to compete and exchange ideas, enhance their ICT knowledge and practical skills, and raise their innovation awareness. In addition, the competition also serves as a platform that facilitates communication between international talent; as well as collaboration between governmental organizations, higher education institutions, training agencies, and enterprises; thereby promoting the education, growth, and employment of ICT talent and building a healthy ICT talent ecosystem.

WhatsApp empowers users with new privacy controls

New Privacy Setting for Groups

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) WhatsApp groups continue to connect family, friends, coworkers, classmates and more. As people turn to groups for important conversations, users have asked for more control over their experience. Today, we’re introducing a new privacy setting and invite system to help you decide who can add you to groups.

To enable it, go to Settings in your app, then tap Account > Privacy > Groups and select one of three options: “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “My Contacts Except.” “My Contacts” means only users you have in your address book can add you to groups and “My Contacts Except” provides additional control for who among your contacts can add you to a group.

In those cases, an admin who can’t add you to a group will be prompted to send a private invite through an individual chat, giving you the choice of joining the group. You’ll have three days to accept the invite before it expires.

With these new features, users will have more control over the group messages they receive. These new privacy settings will begin rolling out to some users starting today and will be available worldwide in the coming days to those using the latest version of WhatsApp.

“With WhatsApp increasing playing an integral part in the way communities now connect, communicate and even perform their professional functions, it is becoming essential that consumers privacy and safety concerns are taken more seriously. Developing new ways to increase consumers’ control is a positive step. We appreciate WhatsApp’s efforts to give agency to it’s consumers and hope that as it’s influence grows, WhatsApp would continue to recognize it’s responsibilities and would continue to empower consumers with tools that help them define their own information experience in an active and an informed manner. “-Sadaf Khan, Director, Media Matters for Democracy.

This criminal and immoral act of most mobile sellers has been reported by PTA to FIA and the issue was also highlighted by different segments of the society specially in a senate subcommittee meeting on IT & Telecom. FIA has reportedly arrested some people in this connection and are now investigating the matter further. It is very likely that more arrest will follow of shopkeepers and maybe this scope of extended to customers who have used stolen identity for registration of the mobile devices.

A senior lawyer familiar with such issues told our reporter that according to the PECA rules, if someone is caught misusing the credentials of international traveler for mobile registration & reprogramming of IMEI can be imprisoned for upto 07 years, fined or even both as it falls under the definition of  Criminal Act.

Huawei calls on U.S. to adjust its approach to tackle cybersecurity effectively

Files motion for summary judgment in its court case to accelerate process to halt illegal action against the company

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Huawei today filed a motion for summary judgment as part of the process to challenge the constitutionality of Section 889 of the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (2019 NDAA). It also called on the U.S. government to halt its state-sanctioned campaign against Huawei because it will not deliver cybersecurity.

Banning Huawei using cybersecurity as an excuse “will do nothing to make networks more secure. They provide a false sense of security, and distract attention from the real challenges we face,” said Song Liuping, Huawei’s chief legal officer. “Politicians in the U.S. are using the strength of an entire nation to come after a private company,” Song noted. “This is not normal. Almost never seen in history.”

“The U.S. government has provided no evidence to show that Huawei is a security threat. There is no gun, no smoke. Only speculation,” Song added.

In the complaint, Huawei argues that Section 889 of the 2019 NDAA singles out Huawei by name and not only bars U.S. government agencies from buying Huawei equipment and services, but also bars them from contracting with or awarding grants or loans to third parties who buy Huawei equipment or services—even if there is no impact or connection to the U.S. government.

Song also addressed the addition of Huawei to the “Entity List” by the U.S. Commerce Department two weeks ago. “This sets a dangerous precedent. Today it’s telecoms and Huawei. Tomorrow it could be your industry, your company, your consumers,” he said.

“The judicial system is the last line of defense for justice. Huawei has confidence in the independence and integrity of the U.S. judicial system. We hope that mistakes in the NDAA can be corrected by the court,” Song added.

Glen Nager, Huawei’s lead counsel for the case, said Section 889 of the 2019 NDAAviolates the Bill of Attainder, Due Process, and Vesting Clauses of the United States Constitution. Thus the case is purely “a matter of law” as there are no facts at issue, thereby justifying the motion for a summary judgement to speed up the process.

Huawei believes that U.S. suppression of Huawei will not help make networks more secure. Huawei expects the U.S. to take the right approach and adopt honest and effective measures to enhance cybersecurity for everyone, if the U.S. government’s real goal is security.

In line with a court scheduling order, a hearing on the motion is set for Sept. 19.

Recent restrictions based on ungrounded allegations have been imposed on Huawei-Ken Hu, Deputy Chairman, Huawei

Recent restrictions based on ungrounded allegations have been imposed on Huawei in order to disrupt business operations: Ken Hu, Deputy Chairman, Huawei

Lahore –  In his keynote remarks delivered yesterday at the Potsdam Conference on National Cybersecurity in Berlin, Germany, Ken Hu, Deputy Chairman, Huawei said that in recent days, restrictions, based on ungrounded allegations, have been imposed on Huawei in order to disrupt our business operations. We believe this behavior is totally unjustified.

Ken highlighted that in Europe, approximately three-quarters of smartphone users rely on an Android-based phone. Huawei accounts roughly for 20% of this market. Such reckless decisions can cause a great deal of harm to consumers and businesses in Europe.

This sets a dangerous precedent. It goes against the values of the international business community, cuts off the global supply chain and disrupts fair competition in the market. This could happen to any other industry and company in the future if we don’t jointly confront these issues.

I am honored to speak at this beautiful campus of the University of Potsdam. When I arrived earlier, I was told that we are at a historic site where the Berlin Wall once stood. This reminded me of the fact that we don’t want to see another wall and we don’t want to go through another painful experience.  Equally, we don’t want to build a new wall in terms of trade, we don’t want to build a new wall in terms of technology either. We need an integrated global ecosystem which can help us to promote faster technological innovation and stronger economic growth. Ultimately, it is what we have to rely on in order to maintain prosperity for human society.
