* Hours before the hearing, Juhi asserted, ‘There seems to be a general misconception, that our present suit filed in the Hon’ble Delhi High Court is against 5G technology*

Actress turned environmentalist Juhi Chawla reiterated the fact that her agenda is not to ban 5G as wrongly reported by a certain section of the media.

On otherday, the virtual courtroom hearing that went viral due to song interruption shifted the attention.

Hours before the hearing, Juhi asserted, ‘There seems to be a general misconception, that our present suit filed in the Hon’ble Delhi High Court is against 5G technology. We wish to clarify here and once again very clearly state; we are not against 5G technology. However, we seek from the Government and the governing authorities, to certify to us and, therefore, to the public at large, that 5G technology is safe to humankind, man, woman, adult, child, infant, animals and every type of living organism, to flora and to fauna.’

Reacting to the conflicting opinions of the public at large and also addressing the defendants common query on Why now? Juhi Chawla shared an interesting timeline of her consistent battle against radiation, the works of which available in the public domain to verify.

Reacting to the conflicting opinions of the public at large and also addressing the defendants common query on Why now? Juhi Chawla shared an interesting timeline of her consistent battle against radiation, the works of which available in the public domain to verify

Juhi shared, ‘Having written to several concerned government authorities, since 2010, making a presentation to the 53rd Parliamentary Standing Committee 2013 – 2014, filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Mumbai High Court 2015, found there has been no substantial movement in the EMF radiation matters, whatsoever. In 2019, on enquiring from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Government of India, I was informed in writing vide reply under the RTI Act that no studies have been conducted with regards to RF radiation, even as of today.’

‘Since prevention is well-accepted to be far better than cure, immediate measures must be taken to protect humanity and the environment, & for which all I am asking is to the concerned authorities to Show me the Data,’ Juhi further reiterated.

PFA: ICMR report dated April ’19, a reply to our RTI application for your perusal. For the unversed, the plea claimed that 5G wireless technology plans threaten to provoke serious, irreversible effects on humans and permanent damage to the earth’s ecosystems.

The suit, filed by Chawla, Veeresh Malik and Teena Vachani, said that if the telecom industry’s plans for 5G come to fruition, no person, animal, bird, insect and plant on earth will be able to avoid exposure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to levels of RF radiation that are 10x to 100x times greater than what exists today.

realme 5G Summit Ends with a Commitment to Bring 5G Phones to 100 Million Young Consumers in Next Three Years

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) realme, the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand, today announced at its inaugural 5G summit that it would enable 100 million young consumers to use 5G smartphones within the next three years. At the summit, which was held in partnership with GSMA, Counterpoint Research and Qualcomm, realme also revealed that new models in GT series, realme 5G performance and camera flagships, will be launched in June and July 2021, respectively, among several other corporate initiatives to promote 5G adoption globally.

With the theme “Making 5G Global: Affordability for the Masses”, the 5G summit brought together leaders from industry association, research institution, component vendor and device manufacturer to share their insights on several 5G topics: current global 5G connectivity – the driving forces behind it and the technical aspect to 5G evolution; the unique relationship between 5G and the younger generation; and how to further facilitate 5G accessibility in the future.

At the summit, realme reaffirmed its commitment to become a “popularizer of 5G” and shared its latest pledge to advance the adoption of 5G in global markets and bring the technology to more users worldwide. In 2020, realme launched 14 5G devices in 21 markets, accounting for around 40% of all its products. By 2022, the company aims to increase the number of its 5G offerings to over 20, upping the ratio to 70% across 50 markets. realme also plans to take the industry lead in launching a 5G mobile phone at a USD 100 price point in the next few years, a move that is set to further accelerate 5G adoption, especially across the rapidly emerging economies.

Madhav Sheth, VP and CEO of India and Europe, realme, said at the summit, “Starting with our first 5G model, the realme X50, we have been exploring new design concepts and technical innovations to bring users more slimline and design-rich 5G phones that have a powerful performance. We believe that in the 5G era, helping to accelerate the adoption of this new technology is a crucial mission for realme. We will work hard to help popularize 5G by listening more to consumers’ needs, pushing forward product innovation, and helping to build the broader 5G ecosystem with our industry partners.”

Johnny Chen, Brand Director, realme, added, “realme believes that 5G is for the younger generation – internet natives who are looking for ways to connect and express themselves beyond the physical world. As a brand that’s dedicated to young consumers, realme tries to listen carefully to what they expect from 5G technology and get them more involved in the process of creating a better 5G user experience. By empowering the young, we hope they can, in turn, become the forerunners of 5G adoption and help lead more people into the 5G era.”

In 2021, realme plans to set up more than ten 5G pop-up stores around the world allowing young people to create exclusive spaces where they can enjoy 5G experiences through cloud gaming, ultra-clear AR, live broadcasting and other popular 5G applications.

Also joining the summit was Kalvin Bahia, Principal Economist, GSMA Intelligence. He commented, “As of May this year, 60 countries around the world had launched 5G – 12 of them are emerging markets and mostly in Asia. While the growth of 5G coverage is encouraging, a survey by GSMA shows that other barriers remain for widespread adoption of the new technology amongst consumers, such as affordability of the devices, lack of digital literacy and skills, and costs of mobile data. But nevertheless, the transition to 5G is inevitable across the world, and 5G is expected to bring USD 600 billion to the global economy over the next decade.”

Peter Richardson, VP and Co-founder, Counterpoint Research agreed that the growth of 5G has been impressive and the rapid reduction in smartphone prices has been one of the main drivers. He noted, “By the end of last year, we saw some highly competitive 5G products offered at affordable prices in China, with realme being the most aggressive with its V3 5G selling at around USD 145. realme is helping to popularize the technology across many other countries with a series of compelling products with great specifications at surprisingly affordable prices.”

Mr. Rajen Vagadia, VP and President, Qualcomm India & SAARC said at the summit, “The upgrade to 5G chipsets pushes platform processing performance to remarkable levels, allowing us to maximize the step change improvements we are seeing in today’s smartphone components and hardware. Just as important, we are delivering 5G to all tiers, ensuring it is accessible to broad segments across developed and emerging markets alike.”

To support the global adoption of 5G products, realme will establish seven R&D centers around the world in 2021, dedicated to exploring innovative 5G technologies and products. At present, 90% of realme’s R&D resources have been converted to 5G technology and products. In the next two years, realme will invest USD 300 million globally in 5G technology research and product development, as well as in promoting global 5G popularization.

  1. Camera

The camera has become the most important part of a smartphone with the increasing trend of social media. Be it for taking pictures or having a video call with your loved ones, cameras are needed for everything. Recently, many companies have come forward with high-pixel camera lens to cater to all your camera needs. Oppo F19 Pro, Samsung A51, and POCO X3 Pro come with a great 48MP camera. The other two phones Redmi Note 10 Pro and realme 8 Pro both are equipped with a super 108MP rear camera.

Even though realme 8 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro have the same megapixel camera but realme 8 Pro stands due to its exceptional camera features. Apart from the 108MP Ultra Clear Camera Mode, it supports 3X In-sensor Zoom, and a host of other modes that allow you to bring out your inner photography talent. We also noticed that realme 8 Pro does better low-light photography between the two.

  1. Design

The body design is the first thing that attracts a smartphone customer. Smartphone companies that focus on their body design reach masses compared to good phones with so-so designs. The weight, thickness, color, texture, and hand feel of the phone all make it worth using. The phones listed above all come with great features and beautiful body designs but still have differences making one stand out among others.

The phones come as slim and lightweight providing a good hand feel for customers.

  • realme 8 Pro is 8.1mm thick and weighs 176g
  • Oppo F19 Pro is 7.8mm thick and weighs about 172g
  • Samsung A51 is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 172 g
  • POCO X3 Pro is 9.4mm thick and weighs 215g
  • Whereas, Redmi Note 10 Pro is 8.1mm thick and weighs 193g

Among these, Oppo F19 Pro comes as the lightest and slimmest among others. But, realme stands out with a different design element that all the rest. It has the company’s slogan “Dare to Leap” on the back. It comes in two gorgeous colors, Infinite Blue and Infinite black.

  1. Charging and battery capacity

Slow charging and low battery life can be the most irritating things sometimes, especially when your work, studies, etc. have all shifted completely to smartphones. No one wants a phone that will die soon or takes a lifetime to get charged. For this, smartphone companies have been working to improve their charging speeds and battery capacity to a better, bigger level.

  • realme 8 Pro comes with a 50W SuperDart Charge and 4500mAh battery
  • Oppo F19 Pro comes with a 30W Flash Charge with 4310mAh
  • Samsung A51 comes with a Fast charging 15W and 4000mAh
  • POCO X3 Pro Supports 33W fast charging with a 5160mAh battery
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro comes with a 5020mAh high-capacity battery supporting a 33W fast charge

No comparison is needed in this category, realme 8 Pro wins with the SuperDart 50W fast charging which helps you to charge your phone to 100% in just 47 minutes. Not only this, but realme 8 Pro realizes 97% charging power efficiency and supports 5 Dimension Charge Protection. Moreover, the phone comes with a 65W standard adapter that can be used to fast charge a wider range of devices. Isn’t this cool?

  1. Processor and Storage

The processor is an essential part of the smartphone as the whole phone’s performance depends on how good the processor is. The under discussion phones come with good processors and massive storage capacities which further improve the performance of your phone.

  • realme 8 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor and 8GB+128GB storage
  • Oppo F19 Pro comes with a MediaTek Helio P95 processor and 8GB+128GB storage
  • Samsung A51 comes with an Exynos 9611 processor with a 6GB+128GB storage
  • POCO X3 Pro Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 processor with 8GB+256GB Storage
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro comes Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G with 8GB+128GB storage

Good power processors for our regular usage, no doubt. Snapdragon is the best processor out of all mentioned above and POCO X3 Pro takes the lead with Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 processor and 8GB+256GB Storage. Whereas, realme 8 Pro uses an advanced 8nm process, making it more powerful and efficient. It is also equipped with Kryo 465 CPU with two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores at up to 2.3GHz and six high-efficiency Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.8GHz, along with a new Adreno 618 GPU, which is the same as Snapdragon 730G.

  1. Display

As far as the display is concerned, recently phones are seen coming with bigger and brighter screens. realme 8 Pro, Oppo F19 Pro, and Samsung A51 come with a Super AMOLED display with around 6.4-inch display screens. Whereas, Redmi Note 10 Pro and POCO X3 Pro come with 6.67-inch AMOLED FHD Dot Displays. The former three phones have a plus point with the Super AMOLED displays as they’ll support better refresh rates and better touch sampling rates with an enhanced pixel rate. Whereas, the latter phones support bigger screens.

Conclusion:

All-in-all, these above-mentioned phones are great in their features, specifications, display, design, and other supportive features. They hold their place in the market along with brand values. But one phone seems to be more visible than others due to its 108MP ultra-clear camera, a 50W SuperDart charging, powerful processor, Infinite Bold Design, and other amazing supportive features, realme 8 Pro! It is a close match, but at only PKR 47,999/- realme takes the lead under PKR 50,000 budget segment.

E-commerce sites continue selling signal booster devices despite Illegality

It’s not uncommon knowledge anymore that signal boosting devices in Pakistan are considered illegal if bought or sold by unlicensed individuals. However, the menace still continues. It has just been noticed that topline e-commerce websites in Pakistan are still selling these illegal devices, as can be seen below.

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has announced it multiple times over the last few months that the buying and selling of these GSM boosters is strictly prohibited and anyone found violating this law can be imprisoned and fined. As per Section-31, Sub-Section (2) of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act 1996: ‘the unauthorized use of the radio frequency spectrum shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to [three] years, or with fine which may extend to ten million rupees, or with both.’ This law applies to sellers and buyers of the boosters as well.

There are valid reasons why such stringent laws exist for the use of these devices. Signal boosters, amplifiers, and repeaters are used to enhance wireless coverage in a particular region. However, they cause direct interference with mobile network frequencies. This not only hampers mobile service quality, but is a huge inconvenience for everyone in the neighborhood where these devices are deployed, since it disrupts their connectivity.

Late last year, the PTA had begun taking action against the sellers of these GSM boosters and amplifiers, when warnings and notices were sent to various markets selling signal boosters to the public, where the authority ordered an immediate halt to this illegal practice. Before this, in August 2020, the PTA had already raised this issue in a public notice as well.

Many e-commerce websites had been seen selling these previously, and took them down after the given warnings. But, a few popular ones can again be seen listing these devices online.

Mobile phone users in various parts of Pakistan, especially Lahore and Islamabad, have consistently been facing mobile network disruption due to the illegal installation of these amplifiers and boosters. E-commerce websites and markets selling these need to be dealt with by the authorities on an immediate basis and heavily fined.

The Internet of Things(IoT) is a giant network with connected devices. These devices gather and share data about how they are used and the environment in which they are operated. It’s all done using sensors, sensors are embedded in every physical device. It can be your mobile phone, electrical appliances Pecos barcode sensors traffic lights and almost everything that you come across in day-to-day life. These sensors continuously emit data about the working state of the devices, but the important question is how do they share this huge amount of data, And how do we put this data to our benefit.

The Internet of Things(iot) provides a common platform for all these devices to dump their data and a Common language for all the devices to communicate with each other. Data is produced from various sensors and sent to The Internet of Things(iot) platform security iot platform integrates the collected data from various sources further analytics is performed on the data and valuable information is extracted as per requirement.

Finally, The result is shared with other devices for better user experience Automation and improving efficiencies. Let us look at a scenario where iot is doing wonders. In an AC manufacturing industry both the manufacturing machine and the Belt have sensors attached they continuously send data regarding the machine health and the production specifics to the manufacturer to identify issues beforehand.

A barcode is attached to each product before leaving the belt. It contains the product code, manufacturer details, special instructions Etc. The manufacturer uses this data to identify where the product was distributed and track the Retailer’s inventory hence, the manufacturer can make the product running out of stock available Next this products are packed and parcel to different retailers.

Each retailer has a barcode reader to track the products coming from different manufacturers, manage inventory, check special instructions and many more. The compressor of air conditioner has an embedded sensor that emits data regarding its health and temperature.

This data is not allies continuously allowing the customer care to contact you for the repair work in time. This is just one of the million scenarios. We have Smart appliances, Smart Cars, Smart Homes, smart Cities where iot is redefining our lifestyle and transforming the way we interact with Technologies.

Why Gen Z Loves Short-Form Videos

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) The fact that short videos are absolutely booming in popularity should come as no surprise. We’re leading increasing busy lives with short breaks during the day. We don’t have the time to sit through a YouTube video; we need our entertainment short, sweet, and right now.

Short video platforms such as Likee, by design, set themselves apart from more traditional social media platforms (which are now getting the reputation as being “for old people”) because they enable users to create and share short, entertaining videos from lips syncs, skits, the dance of the moment, or anything else they wish. The overwhelming majority of users of these platforms – dominating over 50% – is the age group referred to as Gen Z, the users born around 1996.

Gen Z distinguishes itself from its predecessors as the first generation of true digital natives. That means they are the people who were born when the internet was already a thing and they have grown up familiar with different forms of technology being the norm. What’s interesting is that while you’d think that growing up with these influences would produce a generation of socially stunted introverts, they are actually the generation that a McKinsey & Company study found to prioritise their individual expression and rejecting long-held stereotypes, while staying open to change and being open to connecting to people with similar interests regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.

But why do they love short videos so much?

The way technology has influenced our interactions has really helped to shape the idea of Millennials and Gen Z as having shorter attention spans and demanding instant gratification while constantly chasing the next source of entertainment, though this applies more to the latter. They may not know their parents’ phones numbers, but Gen Z will tell you what’s trending at any given moment. Combine that lowered attention span with a platform that boasts a range of editing tools and runs purely on user-generated content while requiring less data to operate and you have a winning formula that will keep users locked in and glued to their screens for hours at a time. The cherry on top is making these videos sharable across multiple other social platforms.

“Short-form video platforms boast innovative formats and having ‘sound-on’ by default means that users are constantly exposed to and engaging with something new, which is difficult to ignore,” said a spokesperson from Likee. “Discovering videos by sheer coincidence encourages users to find out about new trends that they wouldn’t otherwise know about, or learn useful hacks, or see the latest hashtag challenge, can make users feel good as they are met with new content that appeals to them – content that they haven’t actively searched for. It’s that feeling that keeps them engaged and looking for more content that they’ll enjoy the same way.”

Another reason why these videos are growing in popularity is because the platforms encourage creativity and self-expression which could be the factor that tips the scales in their favour. Millennials generally prefer to consume content where Gen Z are definitely in the forefront of content creation.

One of the unexpected by products of short videos is music discovery, since music plays such a key role in the video edits. Two artists who have benefitted greatly are Tones and I with their hit “Dance Monkey” which ended up on Spotify’s Top 50 list, largely thanks to it being used as a backing track on some four million videos. Doja Cat’s “Say So” sparked a dance craze that has been performed by millions of users.

Remember what we said about user-generated content? When it comes to short video platforms, the audience sets the trends because they are the creators. The platform lends itself to creating so much amazing content that will appeal to varying cross sections of society and with content being shared at the click of a button, it feeds into the desire “to go viral” which is still strong. It doesn’t take much to go viral and if a platform can offer the chance of potentially grabbing 15 minutes of fame and an expanded online presence (and users only need to create a 15-second video clip to do it) the incentive is massive.

Finally, there was 2020. With the world in lock down and only so much movies and television shows to be watched, users turned to making short videos on platforms such as Likee to alleviate the boredom. Doing so kept users entertained, informed and engaged. While people were feeling isolated in their homes, they were interacting with other users who were in exactly the same position all around the world. This type of content creation has found its place in the worlds “new normal,” and it is not going anywhere. From here all that remains to be seen is how these platforms will evolve and develop their tools and offerings to ensure their users don’t get bored and jump ship to the next social media platform and that they continue to harness their creativity by continuing to create videos.
