SIX WAYS HOW THE SAAA-CERTIFIED LG PURICARE AIR PURIFIERS CAN HELP YOU FAMILY LIVE ASTHMA-FREE

By (Mustafa Hussain)

LG PuriCare Air Purifiers can remove nearly 100 Per cent of all airborne particles at home

LG’s PuriCare ensures the health and well-being of your family with a host of Innovative technologies to tackle asthma that are endorsed by the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association (SAAA).

The quality of the air we breathe has a direct impact on our health and well-being, this applies not just to our environment, but indoors as well- where we spend a majority of our time. Children babies and pregnant women are particularly susceptible to airborne allergens that could cause respiratory ailments like asthma , and keeping the indoor environment safe from allergens is crucial to ensuring they remain health and illness-free.

Chronic respiratory illnesses like asthma affect millions across the globe, and the UAE is no exception. There is no cure for asthma, but it can be prevented and the symptoms alleviated. These symptoms include breathlessness, chest tightness, coughing and wheezing, that many do not recognise as symptoms of asthma, resulting in the condition going untreated. However, ensuring that the home is free of dust, particulate matter, harmful pollutants, moulds, fungal spores, mites and other allergens is one of the best lines of defence against asthma. To tackle this, LG has brought its technological innovations to its range of PuriCare Air Purifiers, using comprehensive filtration methods to ensure that even the minutest of particulate matter, harmful gases and allergens are eliminated from the indoor environment, resulting in the purest air for your family and loved ones.

The technology is so effective that the SAAA — Sweden’s leading educators on the topic, dedicated to improving conditions and understanding of people affected by the allergies and asthma — has given LG’s PuriCare range its highest certification. The certification recognises the LG PuriCare Air Purifier’s ability to remove nearly 100 per cent of all airborne particles, including ultra-fine dust, harmful gases like formaldehyde, smog and allergens that could cause asthma or affect those already suffering from respiratory illnesses.

With summer upon us, respiratory illnesses are likely to be on the rise with the changing weather conditions. It is also the time when many families aim to spend quality time together indoors to beat the heat and humidity outdoors. To ensure your family breathes clean, allergen-free air indoors, an air purifier is a cost-effective, eco-friendly, energy efficient and green solution. This list will guide you through the key factors to consider when purchasing an air purifier and demonstrate why the LG PuriCare range of air purifiers is the ideal solution for your home.

360° purification

An air purifier should be able to filter the air from anywhere in your home, delivering clean, filtered air to every corner efficiently. LG PuriCare offers 360° filtration and coverage to ensure your loved ones can breathe clean, allergen-free air no matter where they are in the room or home. Its Clean Boost technology further enhances the range of coverage; ensuring clean air reaches even the farthest corner of your home.

Baby care

Young children, infants and toddlers are particularly susceptible to particulate matter and airborne allergens, which is why it is doubly important to ensure clean air around them. Conventionally, air purifiers are designed to distribute air using convectional currents, sending air up and around for spatial coverage. However, this method does not distribute air evenly at ground level, which is usually where toddlers play or crawl. LG’s specially designed PuriCare air purifiers have independently operational lower ducts to ensure that clean, filtered air is distributed at the ideal height for infants and toddlers.

Smart sensor and display

Most harmful indoor pollutants are odourless and not easily detectable. These gases could spread through your home and cause respiratory illnesses and allergies, especially if there is a lack of proper ventilation. The LG PuriCare range is equipped with a smart PM 1.0 and gas sensor that provides real-time readings of your indoor odours and particulate levels. The colour-coded Distinct Odour Level Indicator independently displays  and controls the odour quality indoors, even when the air pollution level is at its cleanest.

LG has brought its technological innovations to its range of PuriCare Air Purifiers, using comprehensive filtration methods to ensure that even the minutest of particulate matter, harmful gases and allergens are eliminated from the indoor environment, resulting in the purest air for your family and loved ones.

Portability and design

It is important to consider portability and design when choosing the right air purifier for your family. Sharp edges or a clunky design may be dangerous with toddlers or small children.  Heavy air purifiers, especially those with a tower design could fall or tip over, causing injury and/or damage. Some air purifiers may advertise more features, but might it come at the cost of being bulky and heavy. Cleaning and maintaining the air purifier and its filters might also be cumbersome.  The LG PuriCare range comes with none of these drawbacks, but all the benefits of a highly functional and efficient air purifier. This means peace of mind for you and your whole family.

Six-step comprehensive filtration

At the heart of every air purifier is a filtration system designed to remove particulate matter from ambient air. This is usually categorised as PM, followed by a number, which denotes the size of the particles in micrometres (µm). While most air purifiers provide filtration of PM 10 and 2.5, LG’s PuriCare range offers PM 1.0 filtration as well. This comprehensive filtration protection ensures the allergens and PM substances usually associated with triggering asthma attacks and other respiratory conditions are completely removed from the home. The LG PuriCare uses a six-step process to achieve this, ensuring you and your family breathe in only the cleanest air indoors:

Step 1: Large dust removal (PM 10)

Step 2: Dust storm/Ultra-fine dust removal (PM 2.5)

Step 3: Allergy removal

Step 4: Living environment odours, including ammonia (PM 1.0)

Step 5: Volatile Organic Compounds(PM 1.0)

Step 6: Smog compounds (PM 1.0)

Seamless Connectivity:

As Internet of Things (IOT) permeates every household, you an air purifier that also offers seamless connectivity with your other devices. LG makes managing your smart appliances easy using the SmartThinQ app (available on Android and iOS). SmartThinQ has an intelligent algorithm that gets smarter the more you use your appliances via the app, remembering usage habits and data to better anticipate your needs. Using the app, you can check in on your PuriCare air purifier from anywhere, monitoring the dust level, filter maintenance and even get alerts on the air quality inside your home as detected by PuriCare’s myriad sensors. The LG PuriCare range of products SmartThinQ gives you high quality  performance  and  efficient,  seamless operation.

FACEBOOK MAKING IT EASIER TO DONATE BLOOD

Facebook announces “Blood Donations”, a dedicated space on Facebook on World Blood Donor Day, will make it easy for people to find related information to blood donation drives, requests, and nearby blood banks

Karachi (Muhammad Yasir) – Today, in support of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, we are launching Blood Donations on Facebook, a new center where people in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, and India can find opportunities to donate nearby. We are also running a campaign in these countries to raise awareness of blood shortage and the importance and impact of donating.

People who visit Blood Donations on Facebook can also sign up to be a blood donor to get notified directly when there is a need for blood nearby. To date, more than 10 million people have signed up and thousands of donations have been facilitated through Facebook.

Blood Donations on Facebook

We know that when donors have information and opportunities to give, they step up to help. But often donors don’t know where and when to donate. Blood Donations on Facebook shows people opportunities to donate in their city, including nearby blood donation events, requests for blood donors and blood banks. We have also made it easy for organizations to add requests and events to the center. People will be able to access Blood Donations on Facebook from the explore menu on their device.
World Blood Donor Day Campaign

In many countries, including Pakistan, blood donations are typically at their lowest during May and June. To help raise awareness of the shortage and the need for donations, Facebook will be running a campaign through the month of June to encourage people to donate blood, share stories of people who have saved lives using these features, and educate people about the process of donating blood.
Professor Hasan Abbas Zaheer, National Coordinator, Safe Blood Transfusion Programme explains, “During the summer vacations and in the holy month of Ramadan blood donation rates fall in Pakistan and the past few years these times have overlapped and caused real hardship to the patients, particularly the large population of transfusion dependent thalassaemia patients.

Our blood banks thus face an urgent need to collect blood through repeat donations from our regular donors and also by recruiting (and retaining) more new donors to ensure replenishment of blood stocks from a low-risk population to maintain the smooth functioning of the system. The government’s Safe Blood Transfusion Programme welcomes Blood Donations through Facebook which make it easier for people to support their local blood donation events and respond to requests for blood donations. Remember your one blood donation can help save the lives of three different patients.”

Shasha S. shared her recent experience, “My father had to have open heart surgery and the hospital told us we needed to find 6 donors to fulfil the blood requirements. Unfortunately our friends and contacts were unable to donate as they were fasting. Lucky I remembered the Blood Donation feature on Facebook, and quickly clicked on the icon, shared my father’s blood type and details of where people could donate. Within hours, two strangers came forward to donate blood to my father. My family is so grateful, we were so worried that we would be unable to find the blood we needed, but through Facebook we found extra help we needed. Today my father is getting better every day and I encourage everyone to sign up as a donor.”

We hope that by raising awareness and letting people know where and when they can donate, we can increase blood donations and contribute to a more sustainable blood supply.

Major cause of Thalassaemia is cousin marriage. Dr. Saima Farhan

Lahore (Qasim Ali) Every year an estimated 5000 to 9000 new patients of thalassaemia are diagnosed, the blood disorder which is found to affect children, requires blood transfusion every month and the complications that require constant expensive treatment. According to estimates, around 5pc – 10 million – of Pakistanis carry the genes for the disease, and around 5,000 children are born with thalassaemia major every year. Half of the affected children succumb before they reach adulthood due to the treatment options not being affordable for all said, Dr. Yasmeen Ehsan(Project Coordinator, Punjab Thalassaemia Prevention Program) while addressing a one day symposium held by City Lab & Research Centre at Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Punjab University Lahore. People with thalassaemia minor carry the trait for thalassaemia major, and can transmit it to their children, but children only suffer from thalassaemia major if they inherit it from both parents. Dr Saima opined the need of good diagnostic labs and research centre like City Lab & Research Centre to detect the disease.

Reckitt Benckiser presents ‘Signature Diarrhoea Reduction’ Program at the South Asian Conference on Sanitation

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Reckitt Benckiser (RB) was invited to share their signature program on diarrhoea reduction, ‘Safai Nama’, at the South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN) being held in Serena Hotel in Islamabad. RB Pakistan’s Safai Nama under their global “Save a Child Every Minute” campaign aims to reduce the infant mortality rate due to diarrhoea for children under the age of 5.

Safai Nama uses the seven-point plan prescribed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to educate and encourage rural households for better health and hygiene. The aim is to reduce deaths caused by diarrhoea by making people adopt healthier practices as part of their daily routines. This eventually helps reduce the daunting number of 53,000 children dying because of the disease every year.

SACOSAN is a government led biennial convention, held on a rotational basis in each member country which includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This year Pakistan is hosting the conference for the second time. SACOSAN has been instrumental in generating a political will and commitment towards better sanitation and hygiene promotion in the South Asian region over a decade. It acts as a great forum for all member countries to share experiences, lessons and best-in-class examples for others to adopt and execute. RB’s Safai Nama program being implemented in partnership with the government and social sector is one of such example being shared.

“RB envisions a world where people are healthier and live better. This defines our purpose to make a difference by giving people innovative solutions for healthier lives and happier homes. ‘Save a Child Every Minute’ is providing the much-needed knowledge and awareness to the rural communities. I am very proud to present the success of this initiative in Pakistan at the SACOSAN”, stated Sandra Hennessey, Global Charity Partnerships Manager, RB.

Safai Nama is part of our bigger national initiative, Hoga Saaf Pakistan. This specific program has been flaring quite well in partnership with the HUD & PHED department of the Punjab Government along with the social sector to educate rural communities on health and hygiene. RB Pakistan is committed to ensure a healthier, cleaner Pakistan and will keep on ensuring efforts like these to bring in sustainable change for the betterment of our country,” said Fahad Ashraf, Chief Executive RB Pakistan.

Reckitt Benckiser Raises Hygiene Awareness through PSL across Pakistan

Lahore Reckitt Benckiser (RB), the makers of Dettol and Harpic, seeded the importance of hygiene and cleanliness to the masses through the much-heralded platform of Pakistan Super League (PSL). This was an extension of RB’s severalinitiatives which are fostering a culture of hygiene and cleanliness in the country, under their pledge for “Hoga Saaf Pakistan”. Through this nationwide movement, RB has been working on raising awareness and providing infrastructural support throughboth rural and urban on-ground interventions.

Capitalizing on PSL’s massive popularity and viewership, the idea was to encourage self-driven cleanliness amongst the audience through commentary endorsements and reviews alongside on-screenscrolls and videos throughout all matches. The desired outcome was to make individuals take responsibility of cleanliness around them by making “Hoga Saaf Pakistan” every Pakistani’s motivation and mantra. For instance, the intelligent integration atthe time of the toss was aimed at capturing even a sliver of attention so as to convey the key message while instilling a sense of responsibility with a fun flair.

In addition to reaching the masses through the TV screen to make “Saaf Pakistan”’ a reality, the campaign also encouraged the audience on-ground within matches to take responsibilityand maintain cleanliness. RB collaborated with the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to ensure “Clean Stadium Days” at Gaddafi Stadium, as they maintained proper waste management protocols to maximize the impact of the campaign and its key message in Lahore. In Karachi, the approach was to lead by example and take responsibility of your own waste where university students and professionals volunteered for Hoga Saaf Pakistan to properly dispose of their own garbage for others to follow suit in a similar manner.

Hoga Saaf Pakistan has been taking the lead in empowering the individuals of Pakistan in creating impact and encouraging a more community-led participation for a cleaner ecosystem. Underthis campaign, RB has been organizing various pro-environment activities such as massive cleanliness and plantation drives across the country while extensively educating school and university going students, expecting mothers and adults on cleanlinessand hygiene in both rural and urban areas.

Speaking about the initiative, Fahad Ashraf – Chief Executive and GM Health, RB Pakistan said, “RB is fully committed to ensure healthier lives and happier homes for fellow Pakistanis and wewill continue to lead and support such initiatives for a healthier and cleaner Pakistan. Partnering with PSL was a move to extend our mission of ‘Hoga Saaf Pakistan’ to millions of Pakistanis. We have a calendar full of ‘Hoga Saaf Pakistan’ activities throughoutthe year to continue reminding all of us that keeping ourselves, our homes and our neighbourhoods clean is the responsibility of each & every Pakistani. While the journey of PSL 2018 has ended here, ours has just begun!”
