USMAN ZAHUR BECOMES THE NEW MD/CEO OF PAKISTAN TOBACCO COMPANY LIMITED

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited (PTC) recently announced the appointment of Mr. Usman Zahur as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to this assignment, Usman was the Area Marketing Director for South Asia Cluster comprising of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Afghanistan & Maldives. Usman during his career with BAT has worked on various positions in Marketing within Pakistan, BAT Headquarters in London and in geographies like Europe, Africa, Japan, and Bangladesh

Usman has replaced Mr. Syed Javed Iqbal, who served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PTC for three years and has now been elevated to the role of Area Director, Middle East & South Asia, British American Tobacco.

Shahid Nadeem invited to Deliver World Theater Day Message

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Eminent Pakistani playwright and IAC Professor, Shahid Nadeem has been invited to deliver the official message on the World Theater Day 2020 by the International Theatre Institute. The event will be held at the ITI’s UNESCO headquarters in Paris in March this year. The message will also be translated in 60 languages and distributed worldwide. In their invitation letter, ITI Director General Tobias Biancon and Deputy Director General Chen Zhongwen say:

” In view of your extremely important and essential work in the performing arts and your viewpoint for the audience, for the importance of culture, we are sure that a message of yours that is spread all over the world and is also published in newspapers, radio and TV, you could have a good influence and your message could increase the awareness of the people for the value and importance of theater.”

Shahid Nadeem heads Pakistan’s leading theater group Ajoka. He has written more than 50 plays for theater, several popular TV serials and the award-winning film “Manto”. He has also directed plays for theater and television. Shahid Nadeem, a recipient of President of Pakistan’s Pride of Performance award, currently heads the Film and TV programme at the Institute for Art and Culture, Lahore.

Sindh Governor likely to inaugurate GCT’s Fun Gala on 23rd to entertain 1600 orphan students

Karachi (Muhammad Yasir) The Green Crescent Trust, a leading charity working to enroll 4.2 million out-of-school children in Sindh, will organize a day-long fun gala in Karachi on January 23, 2020 to entertain around 1600 orphan students enrolled in its over 150 charitable schools in Sindh.

GCT CEO Zahid Saeed disclosed this as he led a delegation of his charity to meet Arts Council Karachi President Muhammad Ahmed Shah at the latter’s office. The meeting was held to express gratitude to Arts Council president as the Arts Council recently provided its premises to hold a Children Carnival to mark Silver Jubilee of the GCT’s foundation. 

Zahid Saeed said on the occasion that the Orphan Fun Gala would be held at a prominent amusement park of Karachi where the orphan students of the GCT schools hailing from different towns of Sindh would get unresticted access to the park’s joy rides on day-long basis.
Prominent businessmen and industrialists of the city will also attend the occasion to reiterate their resolve to support any charitable activity to enroll 4.2 million out-of-school children in Sindh. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail is likely to inaugurate the Fun Gala for Orphans. Arts Council president will be the guest of honour on the occasion.
After Karachi’s event on January 23rd, similar fun gala for orphan students of GCT will be held in Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Umerkot later this month.
The Arts Council president said on the occasion that the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi while sensing its obligations towards the society would continue to provide support in whatever way it could to the further the mission to enroll 4.2 million out-of-school children in Sindh. 

GCT CEO said that it was the first time that the students of the GCT schools belonging to underprivileged families settled in different towns of Sindh had been given the opportunity to present their extra-curricular skills at the prime venue of Arts Council on the occasion of Children Carnival. 

He said that the way the students of GCT’s schools participated in different competitions of the carnival had proved beyond any doubt that they were well capable of competing with the students of any elite school network of Karachi.
The Arts Council Karachi president suggested on the occasion to hold a roundtable session after inviting all the stakeholders relevant to the education sector especially those belonging to the charitable organizations like the GCT to find a consensus strategy to resolve the menacing issue of out-of-school children in Sindh.
Both the CEO of GCT and Arts Council Karachi President agreed to continue cooperation with each other to further the mission of spreading education for the benefit of less-privileged communities of the province with the support of Government of Sindh and other stakeholders.

Hyundai Nishat Motor started mass production of Hyundai Porter H-100 Pickup

Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) Hyundai Nishat Motor (Private) Limited announced its mass production at the assembly plant in FIEDMC, M3 Industrial Estate, Faisalabad. With an annual production capacity of up to 15,000 units per annum in its initial phase, Hyundai’s manufacturing plant is now fully operational.

The Start of Production takes place just two years after the ground breaking in December 2017. The HNMPL plant is the new production home for Hyundai’s first ‘Make in Pakistan’ product, the Porter H-100 Pickup, with other exciting range of models to follow in near future.

Mr. Tatsuya Sato, Chief Operating Officer – HNMPL, said on the occasion that “We are proud to open our new production facility in Pakistan”. Business Incubation Programme launched for youth

Business Incubation Programme launched for youth of Newly Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad (Muhammad Yasir) A Business Incubation Programme for the youth of the Newly Merged Districts was launched in Islamabad today. Various Government officials, representatives ofUSAID, UNDP,The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) and young entrepreneurs from the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the ceremony where Ms. Shandana Gulzar Khan, Member National Assembly of Pakistan, Chairperson Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians was the chief guest.

Business incubation services will be provided to 180 aspiring entrepreneurs including 54 women from Khyber, North and South Waziristan districts. The programme will provide technical assistance in the form of mentoring, coaching and training. The young entrepreneurs will go through one-month incubation training, followed by a grant provision/distribution after approval of their business ideas.The programme is implemented by TiE Islamabad in partnership with United Nations Development Programme -UNDP under the USAID funded FATA Economic Revitalisation Programme (FERP). 

Speaking at the ceremony Mr. Wasim Bari, Activity Manager, USAID said, “FERP will provide sustainable income generation and livelihood opportunities to the returnees of the region who were displaced due to the former security situation. All the components of the business incubation programme including business development grants, investment capital, and skills training provided to the potential beneficiaries from the newly merged districts of KP are equally important. To increase the size of the economy, we should always support and invest in such incubation ventures and training programs that unlock the prospects for self-employment and economic growth.”

Mr.Mustafa Mehmood, Program Officer UNDP stated, “From working in FATA with the government of Pakistan since 2005, UNDP’s efforts have always successfully supported the sustainable returns and rehabilitation strategy. This incubation programme will help unleash the potential of youth and entrepreneurship opportunities in the newly merged districts of KP. We, along with our partners, believe that the collaboration of both government and private sectors in such ventures will lead to more prosperous and significant prospects.”

Chief guest of the ceremony, Ms. Shandana Gulzar Khan, Member National Assembly of Pakistan, Chairperson Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians said, “The true essence of economic and social development lies in the empowerment of all communities in a region, in particular those that have been “left behind”- the exact opposite of SDG 2030 agenda which is to “leave no one behind”.”
She added, “FERP is one of the thousand footsteps that are headed towards the realization of such development. I believe that the UNDP’s and TiE’s efforts to help empower young and aspiring entrepreneurs in addressing and solving the challenges that have hurdled the economic development in KPK, will nurture a cycle of inclusive economic growth and prosperity, leading to a self-reliant and successful socio-economic paradigm for Pakistan.“
